nxnative Switch 2 support: Donkey Kong Bananza 60 fps on Mac, nine games now including Mario Kart World
Key points
- nxnative started adding Switch 2 support on Oct 31. Donkey Kong Bananza became playable on Mac on Nov 1 and holds 60 fps on an M4 Pro in the opening areas.
- As of Nov 5 there are nine Switch 2 games, including Mario Kart World (Nov 4), Mario Tennis Fever, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Star Fox. Fire Emblem runs at 60 fps, or 120 on Mac.
- It isn't emulation: the game's ARM64 code runs directly on Apple Silicon and the Switch 2 graphics API is rewritten for Metal. Switch 2 games build from an extracted game folder and need no prod.keys.
- Only Mac is officially tested; iPhone and iPad are listed as untested. On Android, the unrelated community port Banana Native runs Bananza at 52-58 fps (developer's own result).
- On PC, unofficial Eden forks such as Eglantine emulate Switch 2 games instead. Eglantine build 205 (Nov 4) fixed Bananza's freezes and purple screen, but the mines still run at about 30 ms a frame.

Yes, nxnative now runs Switch 2 games, but only on Mac for now. Starting October 31, 2026, the project added Switch 2 support commit by commit: Donkey Kong Bananza became playable on Apple Silicon Macs on November 1 and holds 60 fps on an M4 Pro in the opening areas. As of November 5, 2026, its list has nine Switch 2 games, including Mario Kart World (November 4), Mario Tennis Fever, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Star Fox (November 5), and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave can run at 120 fps on Mac. It is not emulation: the game code runs directly on Apple Silicon. iPhone and iPad are officially untested.

The Switch 2 games
| Game | Mac result (project notes) | What was tested | iPhone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Donkey Kong Bananza | 60 fps on M4 Pro; busy scenes drop to 30 for a few seconds | Opening, the mines and the areas after them, three 5-minute sessions plus a scripted 15,900-frame run | Untested |
| Splatoon Raiders | Median frame time 16.6-16.9 ms (about 60 fps), up to 22 ms in heavier scenes | Opening, character creation, first beach level; about 4.5 minutes without a crash | Memory needs exceed the iOS limit, no iPhone build |
| Pokémon Pokopia | About 60 fps | Opening, character selection, first-area tutorial; a 31-minute user session without GPU errors | Not built yet |
| Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave | The game targets 30 fps; nxnative rewrites that to 60 (M4 Pro), and since Nov 4 offers 120 fps as an option. On an M6 it measured 107-119 fps without a window, and screenshot comparisons show the game speed unchanged | Opening movie, dialogue, first battle map and battle scenes; only version v131072; the game's DLSS is replaced by MetalFX | No iPhone build |
| Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment | Median frame time 16.6 ms (about 60 fps) in the first field, with long frames every few frames (p99 100-114 ms) | New save up to the first field with Zelda walking, on an M6 with 16 GB; no battles yet | Untested |
| Mario Kart World | 60 fps on an M6 with 16 GB (median 16.6-16.7 ms in the first race); 25-28 ms (about 36-40 fps) on a 16 GB M1 Pro | Title, menus, character and kart select, a full 50cc Mushroom Cup race with items; base game 1.0 only, the 1.8.0 profile hasn't been run | Untested |
| Mario Tennis Fever | 60 fps on M4 Pro (median 16.6-17.2 ms in rallies) | Title, practice, main menu, adventure mode opening, free-play singles on grass; one crowd shader doesn't load yet | No iPhone build |
| Yoshi and the Mysterious Book | 60 fps on an M6 with 16 GB (median 16.7 ms, p95 17.1 ms), with occasional 65-79 ms frames | New save through the opening, chapter one and the first habitat, plus save and reload; built from only the 1,519 shaders that session used | Untested |
| Star Fox | 56-60 fps in the tutorial on an M4 Pro with 48 GB, 60 without screenshots; cutscenes at 30, apparently the game's own choice | Title, prologue cutscene and tutorial flight with sound, scripted to the first lesson; a contributor played 7 minutes with a controller on an M5 Max | Untested |
All of these are the developers' own results on their own machines, not independent benchmarks. Each profile is tied to one game update version, as with nxnative's Switch 1 games. A Reddit user reported Fire Emblem at full speed on a base M4 Mac mini with 16 GB, with a little stutter, and a user on an M3 Pro with 18 GB reported Mario Tennis Fever at 30-45 fps with dark outdoor textures while exploring adventure mode, but a steady 60 in free play.
Ocarina of Time, released on November 5, is not in nxnative's main project as of that afternoon (Beijing time); there are unmerged test versions. See Ocarina of Time on emulators.
Expect a long first build: a full shader build still takes hours (the notes put a library the size of Pokopia's at about 6 hours on an M4 Pro, and Yoshi's full build hasn't been estimated). Since November 4 you can build only the shaders your play session actually used: for Pokopia that is 8,158 of 131,426, which takes minutes instead of hours, and a November 5 change cut that step from 1,426 to 607 seconds.
How it differs from the Eden forks
There are now two routes for Switch 2 games outside the console:
| nxnative | Unofficial Eden forks (Eglantine, PokeDinner, eden-nx2) | |
|---|---|---|
| Method | Native: game code runs directly on Apple Silicon, graphics rewritten for Metal | Emulation on PC |
| Platforms | Mac (officially tested) | Windows, Linux, early Mac builds |
| Games | One profile per game, nine Switch 2 games | Whatever boots, many with graphics bugs |
| Input | Folder of extracted game files or a .nup file, no prod.keys | Game files plus the usual emulator setup |
On PC, Eglantine's build 205 (November 4) fixed Bananza's purple screen, freezes and rubber-banding; per its release notes, a frame in the mines now takes about 30 ms there, while other areas stay at 60 fps. As of November 5, the Mac route still gives the steadier frame rate in Bananza's mines. See Switch 2 emulator forks for that side.
iPhone, iPad and Android: community tools and early reports
- Official: the README lists iPhone and iPad as untested for Switch 2 games.
- Pull request #1204 (not merged) measured Bananza at about 30 fps (33.34 ms a frame) on an iPhone 17 Pro Max; its author notes it was a locally modified build, not one from the main branch.
- User reports: on an iPad Pro M4, Bananza swung between 15 and 60 fps before settling around 30; a second iPad Pro M4 user reported 50-60 fps for over 25 minutes with pipeline prebuilding on. On an iPhone 17, Bananza dropped from 60 to 13-15 fps after Ingot Isle.
- pokopia-native (xFractals, Nov 2) says it builds Pokopia into Mac and iPhone apps from your own files; the author reports a 30 fps lock on iPhone and heavy heat after about 6 minutes.
- NX2Apple (LNPANDY) teased Bananza on iPhone at 30 fps in busy scenes. Its 1.1.0 (Nov 4) lets the launcher pick a Switch 2 game folder or .nup file, but its own notes say nobody has played one of these games through the launcher yet.
- NX Play 1.8.2 (Nov 4) can build Switch 2 games from a .nup file.
- LumaNX 0.3.0 follows the latest nxnative and says it can build Switch 2 games, untested.
- Android: Banana Native, a community Android port of nxnative unrelated to the official project, runs Bananza at 52-58 fps at 1080p in a phone's performance mode (developer's own result on one Snapdragon phone). See Banana Native: Switch 2 games on Android.
What Nintendo has done
As of November 5, 2026, GitHub's public DMCA archive has no Nintendo notice against nxnative: the November folder, covering notices processed through November 4, has none from Nintendo, and October's Nintendo notices are from October 1 and 23. GitHub publishes notices with a delay, so this can change.
What this means for players
If you own a Switch 2 game and an Apple Silicon Mac, nxnative is now the smoothest way to play Bananza, Raiders, Pokopia, Fortune's Weave, Mario Kart World and the newer additions off the console, provided your game version matches the profile and you can wait out the first shader build. iPhone is still a gamble. On Windows, the options are the unofficial Eden forks and, for Pokopia, a PC static recompilation. FAQ
Does nxnative support Switch 2 games?
Yes, since October 31, 2026, on Mac. As of November 5 its game list has nine Switch 2 titles: Donkey Kong Bananza, Splatoon Raiders, Pokémon Pokopia, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Mario Kart World, Mario Tennis Fever, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Star Fox. All are tested on Mac only; iPhone and iPad are officially untested.
How well does Donkey Kong Bananza run on Mac with nxnative?
Per the project's notes reported by VideoCardz, the opening areas such as the mines run at 60 fps on an M4 Pro, and busy scenes drop to 30 fps for a few seconds. Only the start of the first level was tested. A MacBook Air M5 user reported 40-60 fps with blocky 3D graphics and GPU hangs.
Is nxnative a Switch 2 emulator?
No. Switch 2 and Apple Silicon are both ARM64, so nxnative runs the game's own code directly on the Mac's CPU, replaces the console's system services with a host program, and translates the Switch 2 graphics API and shaders to Metal ahead of time. Emulators such as the Eden forks translate everything at run time.
Do Switch 2 games need prod.keys in nxnative?
No. Per the project's README, Switch 2 games are built from a folder of extracted game files or a single .nup file rather than an NSP, and no prod.keys are needed. Supported builds need Xcode 27.2 on the Mac.
Can I play Switch 2 games on iPhone with nxnative?
Not officially. The README lists iPhone and iPad as untested, Splatoon Raiders needs more memory than iOS allows, and Pokopia has no iOS build yet. An unmerged pull request measured Bananza at about 30 fps on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, using a locally modified build. One user reported about 30 fps on an iPad Pro M4, while an iPhone 17 dropped to 13-15 fps.
Does nxnative support Mario Kart World?
Yes, since November 4, 2026. Its game page says an M6 Mac with 16 GB finishes the first 50cc race at 60 fps. Only the base game (1.0) was tested; the 1.8.0 profile is inferred and hasn't been run, and a user's report of a crash after 16 minutes isn't confirmed fixed.
Does nxnative support Ocarina of Time (Switch 2)?
Not in the main project as of the afternoon of November 5, 2026 (Beijing time). There are unmerged test versions for Mac, but no official game page yet.
