Pokémon Pokopia PC: first Switch 2 static recompilation out as a test build, Donkey Kong Bananza recomp boots

Published 3 min read

Key points

  • pokopia-recomp, the first public static recompilation of a Switch 2 game, posted test build v0.1.0 on Nov 2, 2026, then v0.1.1 the same day with fixed effects and DLSS, DLAA and FSR 3.
  • It needs your own copy of Pokopia version 2.0.1a, Windows 10 or 11, a Vulkan 1.3 GPU and 16 GB of RAM. Setup compiles the game locally in about 7 minutes, then builds shaders for 1-2 hours.
  • dkb-pc-recomp, a Donkey Kong Bananza recomp based on TotK Recomp, reaches the title screen and the tutorial cave but is not playable yet and often crashes after the first intro.
  • A Pokopia Mac recomp has been shown on X but not released. Copy repositories and download sites with 'repair scripts' have already appeared.
  • There are now three routes for Switch 2 games off the console: emulation with Eden forks, nxnative on Mac, and per-game recompilation on PC.

Yes, Pokémon Pokopia now has an unofficial native PC version, as a test build. On November 2, 2026, the project pokopia-recomp released v0.1.0, the first public static recompilation of a Switch 2 game: it turns your own copy of Pokopia 2.0.1a into a native Windows program, no emulator involved. v0.1.1 followed the same day. A second Switch 2 recomp, dkb-pc-recomp for Donkey Kong Bananza, boots to the title screen but is not playable yet.

pokopia-recomp: what's in the test build

The project, under GitHub user drakolordx7, describes itself as "Pokémon Pokopia (Switch 2) recompiled to run natively on Windows." The repository was created early on November 2 (UTC).

Details (per the project)
Versionsv0.1.0, "first test build" (Nov 2); v0.1.1 the same day
v0.1.1 changesFog, haze, wind, water and other animated effects fixed; mouse works in menus; DLSS, DLAA and FSR 3 upscaling
Game versionYour own Pokopia files, version 2.0.1a only
Requirements64-bit Windows 10 / 11, Vulkan 1.3 GPU, 16 GB RAM
SetupPick your game folder in the launcher; the game is compiled on your PC (about 7 minutes), then the shader cache is built (1-2 hours)
Built onCredits Ryujinx, Mesa, smo-recomp, ScarletNX, ssbu-recomp, Eden and others

How far it plays is the author's own description; there is no independent test yet. No public PC recomp project exists yet for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.

Donkey Kong Bananza: dkb-pc-recomp boots, not playable

dkb-pc-recomp (GitHub user Lucas-blip-png, started November 1) is a static recompilation of Donkey Kong Bananza based on TotK Recomp. Per its own notes:

  • it boots, shows the title screen and the tutorial cave, and responds to a controller;
  • it is not playable yet and often crashes after the first intro cutscene;
  • the CPU side covers only the 1.0.0 base game.

A Mac recomp, shown but not released

On November 1, X user _k1rakira showed Pokopia running on a Mac through static recompilation and said it would be open-sourced within a week. As of November 3 it has not been released. Pokopia already runs natively on Mac another way: nxnative added Switch 2 support and reports about 60 fps in the first area.

Watch out for copies

Search results already show copied pokopia-recomp repositories and download sites that bundle "repair scripts" asking for administrator rights. The original project is the one under drakolordx7. Anything that ships the game itself, asks you to run a separate script as admin, or wants payment is not the original. See fake Switch 2 emulator scams.

As of November 3, 2026, GitHub's public DMCA archive has no Nintendo notice against these projects; GitHub publishes with a delay.

What this means for players

If you own Pokopia and play on a Windows PC, you can now choose between the Eden forks and a recomp that runs the game natively with DLSS or FSR 3, as long as your game is version 2.0.1a and you can wait out the shader build. It is a first test build, so expect bugs. Bananza on PC is still emulator-only; on Mac it runs through nxnative. Compatibility details are on the Pokopia and Donkey Kong Bananza pages. For how recompilation works and the Switch 1 projects, see the October recomp wave; for the emulator side, Switch 2 emulation status.

FAQ

Is there a PC version of Pokémon Pokopia?

Not an official one. Pokopia is a Switch 2 game. Since November 2, 2026, an unofficial project called pokopia-recomp offers a test build that turns your own copy of the game into a native Windows program through static recompilation. It is early and has known bugs.

What do I need to run pokopia-recomp?

Per the project: your own Pokopia game files at version 2.0.1a, 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a GPU with Vulkan 1.3 and 16 GB of RAM. In the launcher you pick your game folder; it compiles the game on your PC in about 7 minutes, then builds a shader cache that takes 1-2 hours.

What changed in pokopia-recomp v0.1.1?

Released the same day as v0.1.0 (Nov 2), v0.1.1 fixes fog, haze, wind, water and other animated effects, adds mouse support in menus, and adds DLSS, DLAA and FSR 3 upscaling. You have to run setup again after updating because the shader cache changed.

Can you play Donkey Kong Bananza on PC through recompilation?

Not yet. dkb-pc-recomp, started on November 1 and based on TotK Recomp, boots to the title screen and the tutorial cave and responds to a controller, but it often crashes after the first intro cutscene, and its CPU side only covers version 1.0.0. On Mac, Bananza already runs through nxnative.

How is a recomp different from a Switch 2 emulator?

An emulator such as the Eglantine fork translates the console at run time and can try many games. A static recompilation translates one game's code into a PC program ahead of time, so it usually runs lighter but supports only that game and a specific version.
