Nintendo Switch 2
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
ゼルダの伝説 時のオカリナ · 薩爾達傳說 時之笛
- Perfect: No noticeable issues start to finish
- Playable: Can be finished; minor glitches or slowdowns
- In-game: Gets in-game, but issues get in the way
- Menus: Reaches the title screen or menus only
- Boots: Starts, then hangs on a black screen or intro
- Nothing: Does not start
On launch day (November 5, 2026) it already boots and reaches gameplay on PC, but it isn't properly playable yet. It's a Switch 2 exclusive, so release builds of Switch 1 emulators (Eden, Ryubing, Citron NEO, MeloNX) don't support it; what runs it are the unofficial Eden Switch 2 forks (not affiliated with the Eden team). The fix that gets it to boot is Eglantine PR #567, merged early on November 5 (Beijing time), but as of that afternoon every published Eglantine build (build 212, v0.1.0-rc1) predates it and stops at "Launching..." before crashing. The only published build with the fix is build 75 of the Lichii fork: it gets through the intro into the game, at 12-22 fps on a Ryzen 9 5900X + RTX 3080 by the developer's own numbers, with far too much outdoor fog and glow (a washed-out picture), and a black 3D view in handheld mode (switching to docked mode fixes it on NVIDIA, not on AMD). A self-compiled Eglantine build runs the intro and Link's house at about 32 fps on an RX 5700, then goes black after about 200 seconds. On Mac, the native port tool nxnative doesn't officially support it yet, but an unmerged test build reaches Kokiri Forest at about 60 fps on an Apple M5, according to its author. There are no working Android reports and no static recompilation or native PC port. Early retail copies were out days before launch (TheGamer reported on November 1) and full playthrough videos appeared before release; as of November 5 we found no DMCA notice or takedown by Nintendo aimed at this game. On the console it runs at 1080p-1440p and 60 fps (Digital Foundry); the day-one patch is version 1.1.1.
Settings & known issues
- Switch 2 exclusive: release builds of Switch 1 emulators (Eden, Ryubing, Citron NEO, MeloNX) don't support it; what runs it are unofficial Eden Switch 2 forks, unrelated to the Eden team.
- As of the afternoon of November 5 (Beijing time), Eglantine's published build 212 and v0.1.0-rc1 don't include the boot fix (PR #567) and crash with a Userspace PANIC after "Launching..." (issue #574); the only published build with the fix is Lichii build 75.
- In Lichii build 75, handheld mode shows a black 3D view with only the HUD: on NVIDIA, switching to docked mode makes it render (issue #94); on AMD that doesn't help.
- Stuck at "Loading Shaders 322 / 323"? A stale pipeline cache is the usual cause; delete this game's vulkan.bin cache and launch again (Eglantine issue #599).
- The black screen about 200 seconds into the game comes from missing shader instructions (Eglantine issue #589); the fix, PR #604, wasn't merged as of November 5.
- On Mac, nxnative doesn't officially support it yet; the ~60 fps result comes from an unmerged test build (PR #1299), and one user's M4 crashed at boot with the main branch (issue #1280).
- The console version upscales with FSR1, not DLSS; the day-one patch is 1.1.1 (about 343MB).
