Best Switch Emulator in 2026: Picks for PC, Steam Deck, Mac, iPhone and Android
Key points
- Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and Android: Eden. Stable v0.2.1 shipped 2026-06-01 and nightlies ran into mid-October. It is the most active Switch emulator.
- Apple Silicon Mac: Ryubing 1.3.3, though the project has been in maintenance mode since February 2026. Eden's Mac build is still labeled experimental.
- iPhone and iPad: MeloNX 2.7 (2026-10-11). It must be sideloaded and needs JIT; iPhone 15 Pro or newer is recommended.
- Citron Neo is the main alternative to Eden. nxnative is not an emulator: it turns one game at a time into a native iPhone or Mac app.
- As of 2026-10-30 there is no Switch 2 emulator that runs commercial games.

As of October 2026, the best Switch emulator is Eden on Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and Android, Ryubing on Apple Silicon Macs, and MeloNX on iPhone and iPad. Citron Neo is the alternative worth keeping installed next to Eden. The table below is the short answer; the sections after it explain each pick and its catches.
Quick answer: best Switch emulator by platform
| Platform | Best pick | Alternatives | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows desktop / laptop | Eden | Citron Neo, Ryubing | Install the Visual C++ runtime first; use the PGO build; CPU is usually the bottleneck |
| Linux | Eden | Ryubing, Citron Neo | Usually faster than Windows on the same hardware; AMD + RADV is most stable; use X11, not Wayland |
| Steam Deck | Eden (Steam Deck build) | Ryubing | Do first-time setup in Desktop Mode; launch Ryubing through Ryujinx.sh |
| ROG Ally, Legion Go and other Zen 4 handhelds | Eden (Zen 4 build) | Ryubing | Use the vendor's GPU driver, not generic AMD drivers |
| Mac (Apple Silicon) | Ryubing | Kenji-NX, Astris, Eden (experimental), nxnative (per game) | Graphics only through Vulkan → MoltenVK; turn Hypervisor off if games crash |
| Mac (Intel) | Ryubing | — | Ryubing says Intel Macs have many issues; Eden has no Intel Mac build |
| iPhone / iPad | MeloNX | nxnative (iOS 26+, A17 Pro / M1 or newer) | Sideloading plus JIT required; not on the App Store |
| Android (Snapdragon) | Eden | Citron Neo nightly, Kenji-NX | Adreno + Turnip driver gives the best compatibility; 8GB RAM minimum |
| Android (Dimensity / Exynos / Tensor) | Eden | — | No Turnip support; Mali GPUs are generally weak |
Why these emulators: the 2026 landscape
Both original projects are gone. yuzu shut down on 2024-03-04 after settling with Nintendo, and Ryujinx stopped on 2024-10-01. Everything you can use today is a fork. On 2026-02-12 Nintendo sent GitHub a DMCA notice naming 13 emulators. The original Citron then shut down on 2026-02-16 over internal conflict, and Ryubing moved to maintenance mode. In 2026, "is it still updated" and "can I get it from the official site" matter as much as raw performance.
| Emulator | Lineage | Platforms | Latest version (as of 2026-10-30) | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eden | yuzu family | Windows, Linux, Android, macOS (experimental) | Stable v0.2.1 (2026-06-01), nightly 2026-10-18 | Active, near-daily commits |
| Citron Neo | Successor to Citron | Windows, Linux, macOS, Android | Stable 2026-04-27, nightly 2026-10-26 | Active |
| Ryubing | Ryujinx continuation | Windows, Linux, macOS | Stable 1.3.3 (2025-10-11), Canary 1.3.351 (2026-08-26) | Maintenance only |
| MeloNX | Ryujinx family | iOS, iPadOS | 2.7 (2026-10-11) | Active |
| Kenji-NX | Ryujinx family | Desktop + Android | Desktop 2.0.5, Android 2.1.0-pr.2 (2026-02-13) | Slowed; downloads limited |
| Astris | Ryujinx family | Apple Silicon Mac (macOS 15+) | 1.0.32 (2026-10-09) | Active |
| nxnative | Native port, not an emulator | iPhone, iPad, Apple Silicon Mac | Rolling (repo created 2026-10-13) | Very active |
| NxEmu | Independent | Windows (stable), Android (dev builds) | 0.7.0 (2026-09-01) | Active, early |
Best Switch emulator for Windows: Eden
Why Eden: it is the most actively developed Switch emulator, it has both Vulkan and OpenGL backends, and it supports per-game settings, CPU overclocking and online rooms. Eden ships several Windows builds. The PGO build is usually 10–30% faster, and the team recommends it for everyone. Zen 4 CPUs get a dedicated build, and the MSVC build is the fallback when you hit graphics bugs (Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, for example).
Catches:
- Install Microsoft's latest Visual C++ runtime first. Without it, Eden will not open.
- Switch emulation is mostly about single-core CPU speed. Eden's docs say x86 PCs are "almost always" CPU-bound, so a bigger GPU often does nothing.
- Official minimum: Core i5-4430 or Ryzen 3 1200, 8GB RAM (12GB on laptops), and a GPU with Vulkan 1.1 or OpenGL 4.6. Full tables are in hardware requirements.
Alternatives: Citron Neo is Vulkan-only, uses its own Dynarmic-GPLv3 CPU backend, and aims to "do fewer things right." Ryubing keeps Ryujinx's accuracy-first approach, and its docs say the default settings are already optimal, which is great for beginners. It just won't get big new features anymore. Setup steps are in the Windows setup guide.
Best Switch emulator for Linux and Steam Deck: Eden
Eden's docs say Linux almost always runs better than Windows on the same hardware, and AMD's RADV driver is the most tested. Wayland is noticeably slower, so use X11 (there is a "Force X11" option in settings).
On Steam Deck, use Eden's Steam Deck build, which is tuned for Zen 2. The Deck screen is 800p, so 1x resolution is enough. For ROG Ally, Ally X and Legion Go S (Zen 4), use Eden's Zen 4 build; it does not work on Intel CPUs. If you use Ryubing on Linux or Steam Deck, launch it through Ryujinx.sh; running the binary directly is much slower. See the Steam Deck guide.
Best Switch emulator for Mac: Ryubing, plus nxnative for single games
Apple Silicon uses ARM64, the same CPU architecture as the Switch. Ryubing uses macOS's Hypervisor to run game code directly instead of translating it, which gives a big speed boost. macOS has no native Vulkan, so Ryubing, Eden and Citron Neo all go through MoltenVK to Metal.
Catches:
- Ryubing says only Apple Silicon is well supported. Intel Macs have many issues.
- Hypervisor-related crashes and graphics glitches were common in 2026 bug reports. If a game crashes or looks broken, turn off Hypervisor in CPU settings first.
- The Mac version has no async shader option. For audio problems, set the audio backend to SDL2.
- Eden's own words on its Mac build: "experimental, expect severe graphical errors and crashes." Treat it as a preview.
- Kenji-NX has a universal Mac build. Astris supports only Apple Silicon on macOS 15+; Emulation General Wiki lists it as active but does not recommend it.
nxnative takes a different route. It is not an emulator: it converts a game you own into a native Mac app, one game per package. As of 2026-10-30 its site lists 109 playable games, 19 of them boosted to 60 fps. Packaging needs macOS 26.6 and Xcode, the first build takes 30–60 minutes, and online play and amiibo are not supported. See the Mac setup guide.
Best Switch emulator for iPhone and iPad: MeloNX
MeloNX is the only Switch emulator on iOS that is still updated and runs commercial games. It cannot run without JIT. Apple allows emulators on the App Store but does not allow JIT there, so you must sideload it (SideStore, AltStore, Impactor and similar). On iOS 26, JIT is enabled with StikDebug.
Device requirements (from MeloNX): iPhone 15 Pro or newer is recommended; for iPad, iPad Pro 5th gen or iPad Air 5 and newer. With a free Apple ID the minimum is iPhone 12. iPhones with 8GB and 12GB of RAM get the same 6GB memory cap from iOS. Version 2.7 added MetalFX upscaling, a new way around the memory cap, and texture recompression for GPUs without BCn support.
iOS 27 warning: users reported JIT failing on iOS 27.0. The issue was closed, but whether it is fixed is unconfirmed. If you rely on JIT, read StikDebug's latest notes before you update.
nxnative also runs on iPhone and iPad. It needs iOS/iPadOS 26+, an iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro) or newer, or an M1 iPad or newer, and you build one IPA per game. Eden on iOS is only a proof of concept, and Citron Neo has no iOS version. See the iPhone and iPad guide and enabling JIT with StikDebug.
Best Switch emulator for Android: Eden with Turnip on Snapdragon
Eden's Android build is the most mature. It has a built-in GPU driver manager with per-game driver selection, supports NCE (running game code natively, much faster than translation), and comes in Standard (most people), Legacy (older chips like the Snapdragon 865), and a build that spoofs Genshin Impact to trigger vendor performance modes.
The chip is what matters. Eden says Snapdragon has the best support, and Adreno 6xx/7xx with Turnip drivers gives the best compatibility. Mali and PowerVR are generally poor, and most Dimensity chips from before mid-2023 cannot run it. Eden's docs put it bluntly: if your phone cost less than a Switch, it probably can't emulate a Switch well.
| Tier | Chips listed by Eden | RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Snapdragon 865, Tensor G1, Exynos 2200, Dimensity 8200 | 8GB |
| Recommended | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Tensor G4, Exynos 2400, Dimensity 8400 | 12GB |
| Optimal | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Tensor G5, Dimensity 9400 and others | 16GB |
Alternatives: Citron Neo's Android nightlies ran through 2026-10-26, though its own March notes said Android support was "on the line." Kenji-NX for Android has dedicated Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 / 8 Elite builds, and Android Authority found 8 Elite phones get the most out of it, but official downloads are currently limited. Driver advice is in Turnip drivers; setup is in the Android guide.
Quick decisions for common situations
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| First time emulating, on a Windows PC | Eden stable, PGO build, default settings first |
| You want "install and forget" | Ryubing: its docs say defaults are optimal; only touch resolution and other image options |
| A game has graphics bugs in Eden | Try Eden's MSVC build, or compare with Citron Neo or Ryubing |
| Laptop with integrated graphics and 8GB RAM | Upgrade to 12GB+ if you can (the iGPU borrows system RAM as VRAM); keep 1x resolution |
| M1 / M2 Mac with 8GB | Ryubing at 1x; leave the emulated DRAM size at default |
| iPhone 14 or older | MeloNX installs, but heavy games struggle; iPhones under 4GB RAM also need a paid developer account |
| Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 / 8 Gen 3 phone | Eden Standard + a mature Turnip driver is the most reliable combo today |
| Snapdragon 8 Elite phone | In Eden, try the system driver and an A8xx Turnip build; also compare Kenji-NX's 8 Elite build |
| Phone that cost less than a Switch | Eden says it probably won't emulate well; keep expectations low |

What every emulator needs
Every emulator needs prod.keys, firmware and games. For what they are and which folder they go in, see keys and firmware explained. For the legal side, see are Switch emulators legal.
As of 2026-10-30, no Switch 2 emulator can run commercial games; follow Switch 2 emulation status. For a side-by-side of the three main PC emulators, read Eden vs Citron Neo vs Ryubing.
FAQ
What is the best Switch emulator in 2026?
As of October 2026, Eden is the best pick on Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and Android because it is the most actively developed. On Apple Silicon Macs, Ryubing is the safer choice. On iPhone and iPad, MeloNX is the only real emulator that is still updated.
Is Ryujinx still available?
The original Ryujinx stopped on 2024-10-01. Its community continuation, Ryubing, still works (stable 1.3.3 from 2025-10-11), but it has been maintenance-only since February 2026, with no new commits in the official repo after 2026-08-26.
Can I play Switch games on an iPhone?
Yes, but not through the App Store. You sideload MeloNX with a tool like SideStore or Impactor, then enable JIT with StikDebug. MeloNX recommends an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Does Eden work on MediaTek Dimensity or Exynos phones?
Some, but Snapdragon is far better. Eden says most Dimensity chips from before mid-2023 cannot run it at all, and Mali GPUs cannot use Turnip drivers. Dimensity 8200 is Eden's minimum tier and Dimensity 9400 its optimal tier.
Is there a Switch 2 emulator yet?
Not as of 2026-10-30. Projects like Pound, oboromi and Voland are still building the basics. Any site offering a Switch 2 emulator download is almost certainly a scam.
