Key points

  • Sudachi is a yuzu fork built by one developer, Jarrod Norwell. It started as an experimental yuzu port to iOS.
  • It was once the only yuzu fork available on all five platforms: Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS.
  • The final release came on 2025-07-02. In August 2025 the developer ended development to focus on his paid iOS app, Folium.
  • He now contributes to Eden and recommends it. On iPhone, the replacement is MeloNX.
  • Sudachi is no longer updated. Any site calling itself the official Sudachi download is third-party.

Sudachi has been discontinued. Its final release came out on July 2, 2025, and in August 2025 developer Jarrod Norwell announced on the official site that he had stopped working on it to focus on his paid iOS app, Folium. He now contributes to Eden and recommends it. On iPhone and iPad, the replacement is MeloNX.

Where Sudachi came from

According to Emulation General Wiki, Sudachi began as Jarrod Norwell's experimental port of yuzu to iOS and iPadOS. After yuzu shut down in March 2024, he rebased the project on yuzu's last build, EA-4176, then added Linux and macOS, alongside Windows and Android versions.

That made Sudachi the only yuzu fork available on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS at the time, and it was popular in the months after yuzu's demise. Boiling Steam calls it a reliability favorite while it ran.

Some characteristics and limits:

  • One developer, so the release pace depended on him.
  • On iOS, it needed a paid developer account or TrollStore for the increased memory limit entitlement.
  • EGW notes that version 1.0.15 didn't recognize gyroscopes and dropped non-English languages, and suggested sticking with the previous version at the time.

Takedowns, bans, then the end

Sudachi was among the first yuzu forks caught by DMCA actions:

  • April 2024: Discord banned the Sudachi server and its main developer accounts (Wikipedia).
  • Its separate Windows and Android repos were closed by DMCA takedowns, and the project moved to self-hosted distribution.
  • Late 2024: the developer said he would wind down, citing a "very unsafe and unpleasant environment" around Switch emulation.
  • 2025-07-02: the final release. The last few updates had only minor changes.
  • August 2025: a note on the official site read: "Sudachi is no longer in-development and won't be for some time due to my required commitment to my paid project, Folium." Android Authority reported it on 2025-08-25.

Even after it stopped, Nintendo's 2026-02-12 DMCA notice to GitHub still named Sudachi, and leftover mirrors continue to be removed.

Pomelo, Sudachi's iOS fork

Sudachi had a well-known iOS fork, Pomelo, maintained by Stossy11 and installable through SideStore, a paid developer account or TrollStore. Pomelo is archived. The same developer replaced it with Ryujinx-based MeloNX, now the main Switch emulator on iPhone.

Beware of "official Sudachi download" sites

The original site now only shows the end-of-development notice. Any "official Sudachi download" or "latest Sudachi version" you find online is third-party. You can't verify those installers, they may be modified, and there is no new version to offer. See how to spot fake emulator sites.

Eden's team includes former Citron and Sudachi developers, and Sudachi's own developer now writes code for Eden, so moving from Sudachi to Eden is the smoothest switch. For keys and firmware, see keys and firmware explained.

FAQ

Does Sudachi still work?

An installed copy still opens, but development ended in August 2025 and the last release was on 2025-07-02. New games and firmware won't be supported and bugs won't be fixed. Switch to Eden on PC and Android or MeloNX on iPhone and iPad.

Did Nintendo shut down Sudachi?

Mostly no. The developer said on the official site that he stopped to focus on his paid iOS app, Folium, and he had earlier described the Switch emulation scene as a very unsafe and unpleasant environment. Sudachi was hit by DMCA notices several times: its Windows and Android repos and its Discord were shut down, and the 2026-02-12 notice named it.

Can I still use Sudachi on iOS?

It isn't recommended. It is no longer updated, and on iOS it needs a paid developer account or TrollStore to get the increased memory limit entitlement. MeloNX is now the main option on iPhone and iPad.

Does Folium play Switch games?

Folium is a paid iOS multi-system emulator made by Sudachi's developer. There is no official statement on whether it supports Switch.

What should I use instead of Sudachi?

Eden on PC and Android, which Sudachi's developer recommends himself; MeloNX on iPhone and iPad; Ryubing or Astris on Mac.
