Key points

  • Ryubing is GreemDev's continuation of Ryujinx, forked in October 2024 after the original shut down. Its official site, ryujinx.app, still calls it Ryujinx.
  • It has been maintenance-only since February 2026. Stable is 1.3.3 (2025-10-11). After two months of silence, Canary 1.3.352 (2026-11-02) only fixed the built-in updater.
  • It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS, and works best on Apple silicon Macs. There is no official Android or iOS version.
  • Official requirements: at least 8GB of RAM and a GPU with Vulkan 1.2 or OpenGL 4.5. The reference build for native resolution is a Ryzen 5 3600 with a GTX 1060 6GB.
  • Repeated 2026 DMCA notices took down its GitHub org page and Flathub packaging repo, and in October 2026 media reported it was hard to download.

Ryubing is the community continuation of the Ryujinx Switch emulator; its official site, ryujinx.app, still calls it Ryujinx. It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS (best on Apple silicon) and has no official Android or iOS version. As of November 2026, Ryubing is maintenance-only: stable is stuck at 1.3.3 (2025-10-11), and the only Canary build since August 26 is 1.3.352 (2026-11-02), which just fixes the built-in updater.

From Ryujinx to Ryubing

  • Ryujinx: a Switch emulator written in C# by gdkchan, first released on 2018-02-05 under the MIT license. It focused on accuracy without per-game hacks, had Vulkan and OpenGL backends and LDN online play, ran game code directly on Apple silicon Macs through the Hypervisor from November 2022, and switched to an Avalonia interface in March 2024.
  • 2024-10-01: Nintendo contacted gdkchan, who agreed to stop development. Ryujinx went offline with 1.1.1403 as its final version. The team's internal Android and iOS builds were never released.
  • October 2024: GreemDev forked it, and in early 2025 the fork was renamed Ryubing. The source lives on the project's own Forgejo server.
  • February 2026: GreemDev stepped away and LotP and others took over maintenance. In his words: "This is not a phoenix project, this is a maintenance project."
  • Other projects in the family: Kenji-NX (closer to the original UI, with an Android build), MeloNX (iOS), Astris (Apple silicon Macs only) and Ryulynx, created in August 2026 and not yet released. Eden and Citron Neo come from the yuzu family and use different code.

Platforms and requirements (as of October 2026)

Linux / Steam Deckx64 and arm64 AppImages and archivesOn Steam Deck, use the x64 build and launch it through Ryujinx.sh, not the executable directly

Android / iOSNoneThe official FAQ rules them out

From the official docs:

ItemRequirement
RAMAt least 8GB, or expect stutter and crashes
GPUOpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.2 support
Reference build for native resolution and frame rateRyzen 5 3600, 16GB DDR4, GTX 1060 6GB

The FAQ notes that Switch emulation is CPU-bound in most cases; lowering resolution only helps when the GPU is the bottleneck. AMD and Intel GPUs should always use Vulkan. On laptops with two GPUs, update both drivers from the vendors' sites. More in our hardware requirements guide.

On Mac

  • On Apple silicon, Ryubing uses macOS's Hypervisor to run game code directly, and the FAQ says many games play well. Intel Macs have many problems; the developers suggest installing Linux or running Windows through Boot Camp.
  • The Mac build has a single graphics backend, Vulkan (translated to Metal by MoltenVK), and lacks the GPU accuracy and async shader options.
  • There were plenty of Hypervisor-related bug reports in 2026, such as games crashing on launch or graphical glitches with Hypervisor on. If you hit crashes or glitches, try turning off "Use Hypervisor" in the CPU settings first. Some users also reported startup crashes on macOS 26.5 with Canary 1.3.295 and later.
  • See the Mac setup guide and the Mac platform page for details.

Getting started

  1. Get it from the official site, ryujinx.app. Lookalike domains such as ryubing.org are not official.
  2. Extract the program into a folder you own. Don't use the desktop, a drive root or Program Files; protected folders cause permission errors and deleted files.
  3. Use File → Open Ryujinx Folder to open the data folder, put prod.keys (and title.keys) in the system subfolder, then restart Ryubing. See keys and firmware explained.
  4. Install firmware with Tools → Install Firmware. When it works, the system version appears in the bottom-right corner.
  5. Add your game folder under Options → Settings → User Interface → Game Directories.
  6. The official line is that the default settings are already optimal. Only adjust image-quality options like resolution, anti-aliasing and scaling filters, use Vulkan if you can, and leave everything else alone.

If you want to test several versions, create a folder named portable in the program folder to turn on portable mode so settings don't get reset. Platform guides: Windows, Steam Deck, Mac. For image quality, see performance settings; for crashes, see troubleshooting.

Version 1.3.3 and compatibility

  • Stable 1.3.3 (2025-10-11) added support for Tears of the Kingdom 1.4.x and Breath of the Wild 1.8.x, made Hollow Knight: Silksong playable, introduced an LDN room browser and redesigned the Amiibo window.
  • The official site says about 4,300 titles have been tested, over 4,100 get past the menus into gameplay, and roughly 3,550 are considered playable. The full list is viewable inside the emulator.

Strengths

  • Mature, stable and accuracy-focused, with thorough official docs covering setup, settings and common problems.
  • LDN online play with a room browser.
  • On Apple silicon Macs, one of the most mature traditional emulators.
  • Open source under the MIT license.

Known issues

  • Maintenance only: no new features, and games released from 2026 onward may not get fixes. Canary hasn't updated since 2026-08-26 either.
  • Downloads are affected: Boiling Steam reported on 2026-10-16 that it seemed hard to download, possibly only temporarily.
  • Hypervisor problems on Mac: see above.
  • No Android version: Android users should look at Eden or Kenji-NX.
  • Many lookalike sites: ryubing.org, ryubing.com and others are not official. See how to spot fake emulator sites.

Who should use Ryubing

  • Apple silicon Mac users: one of the top picks. Also compare Astris and nxnative.
  • PC players who want stability over new features: it works, but try Eden first for newer games.
  • Longtime Ryujinx users: Ryubing and Kenji-NX both feel close to the original.
  • Android and iPhone users: it won't run. See Eden and MeloNX.

FAQ

Is Ryubing still being updated?

Only maintenance. After lead developer GreemDev left in February 2026, LotP and others took over, and GreemDev put it this way: 'This is not a phoenix project, this is a maintenance project.' Stable is 1.3.3 (2025-10-11). Canary sat at 1.3.351 (2026-08-26) for over two months; 1.3.352 on 2026-11-02 contains a single fix for the built-in updater (#197) and no emulation changes.

What is the difference between Ryubing and Ryujinx?

Ryujinx is the original emulator, written in C# by gdkchan. It shut down on 2024-10-01 after Nintendo got in touch. Ryubing is GreemDev's community fork from October 2024, renamed Ryubing in early 2025. The official site, ryujinx.app, and the app itself still use the Ryujinx name.

Is Ryubing safe? Which site is official?

The official site is ryujinx.app; the source lives on the project's own Forgejo server under the MIT license. Domains like ryubing.org, ryubing.com and ryubing.dev are not official and look like SEO download sites. The official docs also warn that only official downloads are safe; lookalike sites and keyword-stuffed repos may bundle malware.

Is Ryubing legal?

Ryubing contains no Nintendo code or games, but Nintendo's 2026-02-12 DMCA notice named it, arguing that Switch emulators circumvent copy protection by using prod.keys to decrypt games. Its GitHub org page and Flathub packaging repo were later taken down too.

Is there a Ryubing Android or iOS version?

No. The official FAQ says Ryubing won't do iOS and doesn't support Android, citing iOS JIT restrictions, an incomplete .NET runtime and memory limits. MeloNX (iPhone and iPad) and Kenji-NX (with an Android build) come from the same Ryujinx family but are separate projects.

Ryubing vs Eden: which is better?

On Windows, Linux and Steam Deck, the more actively developed Eden is usually the first pick. Ryubing is stable and accurate but has had no new features since February 2026, so fixes for new games lag behind. On Apple silicon Macs, Ryubing is far more mature than Eden's experimental Mac build and is the more common choice.

Does Ryubing work on Mac?

Yes. Ryubing ships a universal macOS build that needs macOS 12 or later, and the developers say only Apple silicon is well supported; Intel Macs have many problems. On Apple silicon it can run game code directly through the Hypervisor for good speed. If you hit crashes or graphical glitches, try turning off 'Use Hypervisor' in the CPU settings.
