Key points
- Eden is a yuzu-family Switch emulator that split from the Citron team in May 2025. As of November 2026 it has the most frequent commits of any Switch emulator.
- The stable release is v0.2.1 (2026-06-01); nightlies resumed on 2026-11-01 after a two-week pause and now ship daily. The 'v0.2.2' some sites advertise does not exist in Eden's official releases.
- Main platforms: Windows, Linux (including Steam Deck) and Android. The macOS build is officially experimental, and there is no working iOS version.
- Android minimum is roughly a Snapdragon 865 with 8GB of RAM; Adreno GPUs with Turnip drivers work best. On PCs, the CPU is usually the bottleneck.
- Nintendo's February and March 2026 DMCA notices took down Eden's GitHub release repos. Source and builds now live on Eden's own servers.
Eden is an open-source Nintendo Switch emulator from the yuzu family. It split off from the Citron project in May 2025, and as of November 2026 it is the most actively developed Switch emulator: the default pick on Windows, Linux, Steam Deck and Android. The macOS build is still officially experimental, and there is no working iPhone or iPad version. The latest stable release is v0.2.1 (2026-06-01); nightly builds paused after 2026-10-18, resumed on 2026-11-01 and have shipped daily since (latest 2026-11-04).
Where Eden comes from
- yuzu shut down on 2024-03-04 after its developer settled with Nintendo for $2.4 million. A wave of forks followed.
- One of them started as uzuy and was renamed Citron in October 2024. In 2025 the Citron team split over DRM and telemetry plans and how donations were handled. Part of the team left and started Eden, which counts 2025-05-10 as its birthday.
- Eden's readme says the project was started by Camille LaVey. According to the Emulation General Wiki, the team includes people from the original Citron and Sudachi, and Sudachi's author Jarrod Norwell now contributes to Eden. The credits list yuzu, Ryujinx, Sudachi, Citron, Torzu, Suyu and Ryubing.
- The original Citron stopped on 2026-02-16 and was picked up by Citron Neo. Eden and Citron Neo are sibling branches. Ryubing is a separate codebase that descends from Ryujinx, not yuzu.
Platform by platform (as of November 2026)
| Platform | Official builds | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | amd64 (standard, PGO, MSVC, Zen 4 handheld build), arm64 | Main platform. Install Microsoft's Visual C++ runtime first or Eden won't open. The arm64 build is "very experimental" |
| Linux / Steam Deck | AppImages (amd64, Legacy for older CPUs, aarch64), plus Steam Deck and ROG Ally builds | Eden's docs say Linux usually runs better than Windows on the same hardware; AMD's RADV driver is the most stable. Wayland is not recommended |
| Android | Standard, Legacy, Optimized, Genshin Spoof, ChromeOS | Main platform alongside PC. Not on the Play Store or F-Droid |
| macOS | Apple silicon DMG only | Officially "experimental, expect severe graphical errors and crashes." No Intel Mac build |
| iOS / iPadOS | None | Only a work-in-progress proof of concept |
Eden also supports FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD and HaikuOS.
PC requirements
From the official System Requirements page (as of October 2026):
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop CPU | Core i5-4430 / Ryzen 3 1200 | Core i5-11400 / Ryzen 5 3600 |
| GPU (Windows) | GTX 1050 4GB / RX 550 4GB, Vulkan 1.1 or OpenGL 4.6 | GTX 1660 6GB / RX 5500 8GB |
| RAM | 8GB (12GB on laptops) | 16GB |
On x86 PCs, Switch emulation is CPU-bound. Eden's docs give the example of a Zen 5 CPU with an RX 6600: the CPU maxes out while the GPU often sits below 70%. Upgrade the CPU first. Eden recommends its PGO builds, which are usually 10–30% faster than the standard build. More in our hardware requirements guide.
Android requirements
| Tier | Chip | RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Snapdragon 865 / Tensor G1 / Exynos 2200 / Dimensity 8200 | 8GB |
| Recommended | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 / Tensor G4 / Exynos 2400 / Dimensity 8400 | 12GB |
| Ideal | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 / Tensor G5 / Dimensity 9400 | 16GB |
What Eden's own docs stress: Adreno 6xx and 7xx GPUs with Turnip drivers have the best compatibility. Mali and PowerVR are generally slow and buggy. Most MediaTek Dimensity chips from before mid-2023 don't work at all. In the docs' words, if your phone costs less than a Switch, it probably can't emulate a Switch well. Android 16 is strongly recommended, and a cooling fan helps. Older chips like the Snapdragon 865 should use the Legacy build. The Genshin Spoof build pretends to be Genshin Impact so some phone makers unlock their performance modes for it.
Getting started
- Go to the official site, eden-emu.dev, and start with the Stable build. Nightlies update faster but get less testing.
- On Windows, install the Visual C++ runtime first. On Android, most people want the Standard build; older chips need Legacy.
- On first launch, Eden asks for prod.keys and firmware. Our keys and firmware explainer covers what they are.
- Add your game folder, set up a controller and play. On Snapdragon phones, open the GPU driver manager to install a Turnip driver; you can even set a driver per game.
Step-by-step guides: Windows, Steam Deck, Android, Turnip drivers, Mac. For settings, see performance settings; for crashes and black screens, see troubleshooting. Eden doesn't keep its own compatibility list and points users to the community database EmuReady.
Strengths
- Most active development. Boiling Steam reported on 2026-10-16 that it gets commits "almost every day."
- Widest platform support. One codebase covers Windows, Linux, Android and several BSDs, with dedicated builds for Steam Deck and ROG Ally-class handhelds.
- Rich Android features. A built-in GPU driver manager, NCE (native code execution) on ARM devices, per-game settings, CPU overclocking and Lua macro scripts.
- Open source under GPL-3.0-or-later.
Known issues
- Weak on Mac. Eden itself warns of severe graphical errors and crashes. Most Mac users run Ryubing day to day.
- Unreliable downloads at peak times. When Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launched on 2026-04-16, Eden's servers pushed 2.5TB in four hours and were reachable only 15% of the time over the next 24 hours (Eden blog, 2026-04-24).
- Multiple GPUs or monitors have been linked to crashes. Disconnect the second GPU or display when troubleshooting.
- Lots of fake sites. edenemulators.com, for example, is not official and still claims Turnip works on Mali. The "v0.2.2 released" story also comes from third-party sites. See how to spot fake emulator sites.

Who should use Eden
- Windows, Linux and Steam Deck players: the first emulator to try.
- Snapdragon phones and Android handhelds: the first choice, paired with Turnip drivers. Dimensity, Tensor and Exynos devices can work, but keep expectations low.
- Mac users: fine for experimenting. For daily use, try Ryubing, or nxnative for individual games.
- iPhone and iPad users: Eden won't work. Look at MeloNX or nxnative.

FAQ
Is Eden emulator safe?
The builds linked from the official site, eden-emu.dev, are open-source software (GPL-3.0-or-later) with the code hosted on Eden's own server. The real risk is lookalike sites and repackaged 'bundles' that may contain malware. Stick to the official site and avoid unknown installers, especially ones that ask for administrator rights.
Is Eden emulator legal?
Eden contains no Nintendo code or games. However, Nintendo's 2026 DMCA notices argue that Switch emulators circumvent copy protection because they use prod.keys to decrypt games, and a US court ruled on 2025-11-05 (Nintendo v. Keighin) that distributing software mainly used to decrypt and run Switch games violates the DMCA's anti-circumvention rules. See our guide on whether Switch emulators are legal.
Is Eden still being updated?
Yes. As of 2026-11-04, the stable release is v0.2.1 (2026-06-01), nightly builds ship daily again (latest 2026-11-04), and the main branch gets commits almost daily. It is the most active Switch emulator right now.
Is there an Eden emulator for iPhone or iPad?
No working version. Eden's repository has only a work-in-progress iOS proof of concept, and the community eden-ios project said in September 2026 that it had never run on an iOS device. On iPhone and iPad, the options today are MeloNX (a real emulator that needs JIT) and nxnative (a native porting tool, not an emulator).
Eden vs Citron Neo vs Ryubing: which is better?
On PC and Android, start with Eden: it updates the most, covers the most platforms and has the most Android features. Citron Neo comes from the same Citron branch, is Vulkan-only and makes a good backup. Ryubing continues Ryujinx; it is stable but maintenance-only since February 2026, has no Android build and is more popular on Mac.
Is Eden v0.2.2 real?
As of 2026-10-30 there is no v0.2.2 in Eden's official releases or tags. The latest stable is v0.2.1 (2026-06-01). Pages claiming 'v0.2.2 is out' are mostly third-party download sites; don't download from them.
What phone do I need for Eden on Android?
The official minimum is a Snapdragon 865, Tensor G1, Exynos 2200 or Dimensity 8200 with 8GB of RAM. Recommended is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Tensor G4 or Dimensity 8400 with 12GB. Snapdragon phones can use Turnip drivers for the best compatibility; Mali and PowerVR devices generally perform poorly.
