ProsperoEden: a Switch emulator running natively on jailbroken PS5, with Cuphead at 60 fps

Published Updated 3 min read

Key points

  • Around Sep 26, 2026, BlackBearReloaded released ProsperoEden, an unofficial port of Eden that runs as homebrew on jailbroken PS5s, without Linux.
  • The v1.000.010 alpha reportedly runs Cuphead and Hollow Knight at 60 fps, Metroid Dread around 40 fps, and Super Mario 3D World is playable in tested sections.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gets into races but doesn't hold 60 fps. Pokemon Legends Z-A is very slow and crashes on exit.
  • Only an OpenGL backend so far, and some numbers come from menus and title screens. Per-game docked/handheld mode and DualSense are supported.
  • Jailbroken PS5s only; no keys, firmware or games included. As of Nov 1 the original repo is still public, so the takedown rumor doesn't hold.
  • Switch 2 became the new topic from Oct 29: a PS5 Eden update with Switch 2 support was teased, and a PS5 port of the Switch 2 fork Eglantine appeared. Nothing playable yet.

As of October 2026, a PS5 can only run a Switch emulator if it's jailbroken, and there's just one unofficial, experimental option: ProsperoEden, released by developer BlackBearReloaded around September 26, 2026. It ports Eden to PS5 homebrew and runs directly on a jailbroken console, with no Linux layer in between. VideoCardz and TechPowerUp report that the alpha gets Cuphead to 60 fps. It has nothing to do with the Eden team, and a regular PS5 can't run it.

What ProsperoEden is

  • Built on Eden. Eden is an open-source Switch emulator from the Yuzu family. ProsperoEden is a third-party PS5 port of its code.
  • Runs natively. It runs as homebrew directly on the PS5, rather than installing Linux on the console and running the PC version.
  • Jailbroken consoles only. You need a jailbroken PS5, and testing was mainly on PS5 firmware 6.02.

Performance: alpha test results

These figures come from late-September reports on version v1.000.010.

A few caveats:

  • There's only an OpenGL backend; no Vulkan backend exists for PS5 yet.
  • TechPowerUp notes some frame rates come from menu and title-screen testing, not full play.
  • The latest build improved OpenGL rendering, game loading and returning to the launcher, and added per-game handheld or docked mode and DualSense support.

Afterward: the repo is still there, and Switch 2 is the new topic

When we checked on October 30, the original author's repository wouldn't open. On November 1 it was public on GitHub again (the account was renamed and the old address redirects), with the last commit on October 18, and it doesn't appear in Nintendo's DMCA filings published on GitHub. The rumor that it was deleted after Switch 2 support was announced doesn't hold, or it was only private for a while. Plenty of copies and forks share the name, such as ProsperoEden-Encore from October 30, which claims experimental support for Switch 1 and Switch 2 games. Builds of unknown origin are a security risk.

Once Switch 2 games started booting in PC emulators on October 29, the PS5 scene followed:

  • Pokémon Pokopia boots on a PS5: VideoCardz and TweakTown reported on October 30 that someone ran the Switch 2 exclusive with Eden on a jailbroken PS5 running Linux. It only showed black silhouettes and purple terrain, nowhere near playable. That's the PC emulator running on Linux, not a native port like ProsperoEden.
  • Switch 2 support teased: the same day, PS5 homebrew figure David Lrt (@Bushigan) posted on X that a PS5 Eden update with Switch 2 support is "on the way." As of November 1 there's no public build.
  • A PS5 port of Eglantine: on October 30, a PS5 port of the Switch 2 emulator fork Eglantine, called EglantinePS5, appeared and calls itself "very experimental." Eglantine is an unofficial Eden fork; see Eden Switch 2 forks and the first emulators that run Switch 2 games.

The 2026 context

This was the first "Switch on a games console" project of fall 2026. Three weeks later, on October 16, community developers ported Eden to Xbox Series X|S Developer Mode as well. Both show Eden's open-source code spreading to more hardware, and neither is official Eden work. TechPowerUp's take: Nintendo has shut down emulation projects before, so how long ProsperoEden lasts probably depends on how much attention it draws and how fast it moves.

What this means for players

For almost every PS5 owner, ProsperoEden isn't an option. Jailbreaking a PS5 carries its own risks, and any "PS5 Switch emulator download" deserves extra suspicion (see how to spot fake emulator sites). If you want to play your own Switch games on a TV, the practical choice is Eden on a Windows PC or a Steam Deck. See the Windows setup guide and hardware requirements.

FAQ

Can a regular PS5 play Switch games with ProsperoEden?

No. ProsperoEden only runs as homebrew on a jailbroken PS5. A normal, online, unmodified PS5 can't install it. It's also not a product of Sony, Nintendo or the Eden team.

How well does ProsperoEden run?

Per late-September 2026 reports, the alpha runs Cuphead and Hollow Knight at 60 fps, Metroid Dread around 40 fps, Super Mario 3D World is playable in tested sections, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reaches races without a steady 60 fps. Some numbers come from menus and title screens, not full playthroughs.

How is ProsperoEden related to Eden?

It's an unofficial port built by a third-party developer from Eden's open-source code. The Eden team isn't involved. Eden itself targets Windows, Linux, Android, Mac and other platforms.

Can I still find ProsperoEden?

Yes. On Nov 1, 2026, the original author's GitHub repository was still public (the account was renamed and the old address redirects), with the last commit on Oct 18. The rumor that it was deleted after Switch 2 support was announced doesn't hold, or it was only private for a while. Many copies and forks share the name, and ones of unknown origin are a security risk.

Can a PS5 play Switch 2 games?

Not properly, as of Nov 1, 2026. On Oct 29-30, someone booted Pokémon Pokopia with Eden on a jailbroken PS5 running Linux, but it only showed black silhouettes and purple terrain. A PS5 homebrew figure teased a PS5 Eden update with Switch 2 support, and a PS5 port of the Switch 2 fork Eglantine appeared, but neither has produced anything playable in public.
