Switch Emulator System Requirements 2026: PC, Mac, iPhone and Android Specs

Published Updated Facts checked 2026-10-307 min read

Key points

  • PC minimum: Core i5-4430 / Ryzen 3 1200, a GTX 1050 4GB-class GPU, 8GB RAM (12GB on laptops). Recommended: i5-11400 / Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1660, 16GB (Eden's official table).
  • On PC, Switch emulation is mostly limited by single-core CPU speed, not the GPU. On phones and devices using NCE it's the reverse: the GPU is usually the limit.
  • Mac needs Apple Silicon (M1 or later). Intel Macs have many issues, and Eden has no Intel Mac build.
  • iPhone 15 Pro or newer is recommended (MeloNX). iOS caps memory at 6GB, and every device needs the Increased Memory Limit entitlement.
  • Android: minimum Snapdragon 865, recommended Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, optimal Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Dimensity 9400; at least 8GB RAM. Snapdragon has the best compatibility.

As of October 2026, Eden's official table puts the PC minimum at a Core i5-4430 / Ryzen 3 1200, a GTX 1050 4GB-class GPU and 8GB RAM (12GB on laptops), and the recommended spec at an i5-11400 / Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1660 and 16GB. Macs need Apple Silicon, iPhone 15 Pro or newer is recommended, and Android starts at a Snapdragon 865 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or better recommended and 8GB RAM minimum. Eden adds that these are not hard limits: a PC under five years old should run most commercial games, and lighter games may run fine below the minimum.

The rule of thumb: PCs are CPU-bound, phones are GPU-bound

  • On x86 PCs, single-core CPU speed is the main limit. Ryubing's docs say emulation is CPU-bound in most cases, and lowering resolution only helps when the GPU is the bottleneck. Eden's example: with Zen 5 and an RX 6600, the CPU is maxed while the GPU is under 70%.
  • On phones and ARM devices using NCE, it flips: the GPU is usually the limit, because mobile GPUs are much weaker relative to their CPUs.
  • Eden recommends 6 or more CPU threads, and a CPU with FMA instructions for the best experience.

On a budget: on PC, upgrade the CPU and RAM first; on phones, look at the GPU and chip vendor first.

Integrated GPUs borrow system RAM as VRAM, so iGPU machines need more RAM. Eden recommends the highest RAM frequency you can get.

Ryubing and Citron Neo requirements

ItemRyubing official
RAMAt least 8GB; less causes stutter or crashes
GPUOpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.2
OSWindows 10 1803 or later, macOS 12 Monterey or later, any modern Linux
Reference build for native resolution at native frame rateRyzen 5 3600, 16GB DDR4, GTX 1060 6GB

Citron Neo's FQA lists things like "GT 710, Core 2 Quad Q6600, 6GB RAM." It is clearly a joke; use Eden's table instead. Citron Neo is Vulkan-only and needs Windows 10 or Android 13 or later.

Operating system

  • Eden supports only Windows 10 and 11, and needs the Visual C++ runtime installed first.
  • On the same hardware, Linux usually beats Windows (memory management differences). AMD's RADV driver is the most stable on Linux; Intel and NVIDIA support on Linux is limited. Wayland is not recommended.
  • Virtual machines only get software rendering unless you pass through a GPU. Don't play in a VM.

Switch 2 emulator requirements

As of November 3, 2026, Switch 2 games only run on unofficial, experimental Eden forks such as eden-nx2 and Eglantine. eden-nx2's release notes ask for 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, 16 GB of RAM and a Vulkan GPU with 8 GB of VRAM or more, well above the Switch 1 numbers above. Even on that hardware, missing 3D models and heavy shader stutter are common. Which games boot: Switch 2 emulator status.

GPU driver tips

GPUWhat to know
AllKeep drivers current. On dual-GPU laptops, update both drivers from the vendors' sites; updating only one often causes "no GPU meets the minimum requirements" errors. After a driver change the shader cache rebuilds, so expect stutter once
NVIDIABlack screen or audio with no picture: reset NVIDIA Control Panel to defaults. Choppy fullscreen or G-Sync not working: set "Vulkan/OpenGL present method" to "Prefer layered on DXGI Swapchain". If a new driver breaks things, roll back one version
AMDAlways use Vulkan, never OpenGL. Transparent window: turn off global Radeon sharpening. RX 400/500 (Polaris) shows rainbow artifacts in Tears of the Kingdom; Ryubing's advice is "use Linux or change GPUs"
InteliGPUs must be 6th gen or newer; 5th gen and older lack required Vulkan features. Use Vulkan. Early Arc drivers crashed on load; Intel says 31.0.101.4382 and later fix it
Handhelds (ROG Ally, Legion Go)Use the vendor's GPU driver. On ROG Ally, if you see AccessViolationException, uninstall the "OpenCL, OpenGL, and Vulkan Compatibility Pack"

Mac requirements: chip and memory

MacWhat runsNotes
Apple Silicon (M1 and later)Ryubing, Kenji-NX, Astris, Eden (experimental), nxnativeSame ARM64 CPU architecture as the Switch; Ryubing can run code directly through Hypervisor
Intel MacRyubingRyubing says many issues. For Intel Macs with an AMD GPU or newer Intel graphics, it suggests installing Linux or Windows instead
  • macOS version: Ryubing needs macOS 12+. Astris needs macOS 15+. Packaging with nxnative needs macOS 26.6 and Xcode 27.2, plus free disk space of twice the game size plus 10GB.
  • Memory: no project gives a Mac-specific number beyond the general "at least 8GB." An 8GB M1 works but has little headroom; leave the emulated DRAM size at default. There is no reliable 8GB-vs-16GB comparison yet.
  • Emulators can't run inside a VM.

iPhone and iPad requirements

Recommended iPadiPad Pro 5th gen or newer, iPad Air 5 or newerM1 iPad or newer
MinimumPaid developer account: iPhone 6s (iOS 15). Free Apple ID: iPhone 12Same as recommended (needs BC texture support)
OSSideload + JIT; StikDebug on iOS 26iOS / iPadOS 26 or later
Memory8GB and 12GB iPhones both get a 6GB capLarge games need Increased Memory Limit

MeloNX entitlements: every device needs Increased Memory Limit. iPads under 8GB and iPhones under 4GB also need Extended Virtual Addressing, which only a paid developer account ($99/year) provides.

Also, from iOS 26, iPhones with A15 or newer and iPads with M2 or newer have TXM, so JIT requires a StikDebug script. A12–A14 and M1 devices have no TXM and are simpler. See enabling JIT with StikDebug.

Android requirements: chip tiers

Android has no OpenGL here, so the GPU must support Vulkan 1.1. Eden's official table:

TierSoCGPURAM
MinimumSnapdragon 865 / Tensor G1 / Exynos 2200 / Dimensity 8200Adreno 650 / Mali-G788GB
RecommendedSnapdragon 8 Gen 1 / Tensor G4 / Exynos 2400 / Dimensity 8400Adreno 740 / Mali-G71512GB
OptimalSnapdragon 8 Gen 3 / Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 / Tensor G5 / Exynos 2400-12 / Dimensity 9400Adreno 750 / Immortalis-G925 / Xclipse 950 / PowerVR DXT-4816GB

(The official "recommended" row pairs Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with Adreno 740, which is actually the 8 Gen 2's GPU. It is reproduced as published.)

By vendor:

ChipWhat Eden says
Qualcomm SnapdragonBest support. Adreno 6xx/7xx with Turnip drivers gives the best compatibility; stock drivers are faster but less compatible
Snapdragon 8 Elite / 8 Elite Gen 5 (Adreno 8xx)Stock-driver support is in progress; Turnip support for Adreno 8xx only started in late 2025 and is still experimental
MediaTek DimensityMost chips from before mid-2023 cannot run it at all; no Turnip
Samsung ExynosPre-2022 chips unsupported; only the newest Xclipse (such as Xclipse 950) works
Google TensorWeak overall; G4 is the best supported
Mali GPUsGenerally slow, but Mali-G715 and Immortalis-G925 are "surprisingly good" on Android 16
PowerVROnly DXT-48-1536 is known to work

General advice from Eden's docs:

  • Android 16 is strongly recommended. It brings big Vulkan compatibility and performance gains; some Pixel users saw more than 50% better performance.
  • Use a cooler, especially on Samsung-fabbed or weaker chips.
  • Compare your chip against a Snapdragon 865 as a baseline, but benchmarks can mislead: a Pixel 6a performs at roughly a third of an 865 because of RAM and cooling.
  • Older chips like the Snapdragon 865 should use Eden's Legacy APK.
  • Eden's blunt rule: if your phone cost less than a Switch, it probably can't emulate a Switch well.

FAQ

What are the minimum PC requirements for a Switch emulator?

Per Eden's official table: Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200, a GTX 1050 4GB or RX 550 4GB on Windows, 8GB RAM (12GB on laptops), and a GPU with Vulkan 1.1 or OpenGL 4.6. Eden also says lighter games may run fine below the minimum.

Does a Switch emulator need a good GPU or a good CPU?

On PC, the CPU matters more. Both Ryubing and Eden say emulation is CPU-bound most of the time. Eden's example: with a Zen 5 CPU and an RX 6600, the CPU is maxed while the GPU sits under 70%. Lowering resolution only helps when the GPU is the bottleneck.

Is 8GB of RAM enough?

8GB is the shared minimum for Eden and Ryubing and is tight but workable on a desktop with a dedicated GPU. Eden recommends at least 12GB for laptops with integrated graphics, because the iGPU uses system RAM as VRAM. 16GB is recommended.

What phone chip do I need for Switch emulation on Android?

Eden's minimum is Snapdragon 865, Tensor G1, Exynos 2200 or Dimensity 8200. Recommended is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Tensor G4, Exynos 2400 or Dimensity 8400, with at least 8GB RAM. Snapdragon (Adreno GPU) phones can use Turnip drivers, which gives the best compatibility.

Which iPhones can run a Switch emulator?

MeloNX recommends iPhone 15 Pro or newer. With a free Apple ID the minimum is iPhone 12; with a paid developer account it is iPhone 6s on iOS 15. nxnative needs an iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro) or newer on iOS 26.

Can integrated graphics run a Switch emulator?

Yes. Eden's recommended iGPUs are Intel Iris Xe and AMD Radeon 680M, and Radeon 8060S is in the optimal tier. Intel iGPUs must be 6th gen or newer; older ones lack required Vulkan features. Give iGPU systems extra RAM.

What are the Switch 2 emulator system requirements?

As of November 3, 2026, the only builds that run Switch 2 games are unofficial Eden forks. eden-nx2 asks for 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, 16 GB of RAM and a Vulkan GPU with at least 8 GB of VRAM. They are experimental, so even strong PCs see missing models and stutter.
