Eden opens registration, drops its AI rule, and gets a 'Switch 2 test build' pull request
Key points
- As of Nov 3, official Eden still doesn't support Switch 2. Stable is v0.2.1 and PR #4588 'WIP: Switch 2 test build' is still a draft. Nightlies resumed on Nov 1 and 3 after a two-week pause.
- Oct 31: Eden co-founder Camille LaVey started reviewing #4588 and estimated only about 40% of the code is actually useful for Switch 2 compatibility.
- A second draft, #4611 'WIP: Switch 2 Support', was opened and closed on Nov 1; its author said too much needed redoing with too little to verify. Two small PRs, #4619 and #4622, now await review.
- Since Oct 29, unofficial Eden forks such as eden-nx2 and Eglantine (build 168 on Nov 3) have released experimental builds that boot Switch 2 games. None of them are official Eden builds.
- The AI rule loosened, then partly tightened: #4585 dropped AI limits on Oct 29; #4612 on Nov 1 still allows AI code but requires human-written PR descriptions, issues and comments.
On this page
As of November 3, 2026, official Eden does not support the Switch 2. Its stable release is still v0.2.1 and only runs original Switch games. The "WIP: Switch 2 test build" pull request (#4588) in the main repo is still an unmerged draft; reviewing it on October 31, Eden co-founder Camille LaVey estimated that only about 40% of the code is truly useful. A second draft, #4611, was closed on November 1, and what's awaiting review now is two small PRs, #4619 and #4622, that only teach Eden to recognize Switch 2 game formats. The builds that actually boot Switch 2 games like Mario Kart World on PC are unofficial forks such as eden-nx2 and Eglantine, which appeared from October 29 on. They are not Eden releases (see the first emulators that run Switch 2 games).

The co-founder's review
On October 31, Camille LaVey left a review on #4588. Her main points: the PR depends on GMEM being implemented for the original Switch (NX1) first; the team should set a roadmap together with the fork developers and look into DLSS-related features first; don't rename functions casually and avoid virtual functions; and "a lot of the code is spaghetti, I estimate only around 40% is actually useful for NX2 compatibility."
It's the first time a core Eden member has publicly engaged with Switch 2 code. The team isn't shutting the door, but a merge is a long way off. The October 30 reviewer comment that "it's not getting merged" referred to this code as it stands.
Several testers also posted patches in the comments. One fixed a freeze after character creation in Pokémon Pokopia, one said Pokopia could reach 30 to 40 fps, and another was playing Donkey Kong Bananza and Splatoon Raiders on Linux and fixed in-game text and video decoding. These are personal tests, not official builds.
A second draft, #4611, closed the same day
On November 1, user JPikachu opened draft PR #4611, "WIP: Switch 2 Support", adding about 400 lines. The description said it didn't work yet and aimed to bring the forks' commits into the main repo cleanly. The author closed it the same day, saying in effect that a lot of it needed redoing, there was too much to compare against and too little that could be verified, and they were moving on to other things; anyone else was welcome to open a new PR.
Smaller steps: #4619 and #4622
After #4611 closed, two much smaller PRs appeared on the main repo. Neither is merged yet:
- #4619 (simply0001, November 1) parses metadata for Ounce (the Switch 2 codename) games and adds support for reading extracted NSPs. Its title notes AI assistance.
- #4622 (dnmodder, November 2) adds support for RSA-3072 ACID headers so Eden can recognize Switch 2 games. crueter said it overlaps with #4619; the author replied that they're related, but this one is much smaller and easier to review.
Both only cover the "recognize a Switch 2 game" step, which is a long way from running one. #4588 has had no new comments since November 1 and is still a draft.
Official nightlies are back
Eden's official nightlies paused for two weeks after October 18, then returned on November 1 (the "Nov 01" build) and November 3. The Nov 1 build merged a loading-screen race fix, faster file reads and macOS network interfaces, among other things. The Nov 3 build raises the desktop minimum to Qt 6.6, defaults Linux to X11 and updates Android's recommended drivers. Neither adds Switch 2 support, and the stable release is still v0.2.1.
The AI rule: loosened, then partly tightened three days later
On October 29, project lead crueter merged change #4585, "[docs] Remove AI restrictions, and adapt to new open registration". The whole description reads: "Registration is now open. Enjoy." Anyone can now create an account on Eden's server, fork the code and open pull requests.
On November 1, crueter merged #4612 with the note "The spam got a little out of hand." The new contribution rules:
- AI-assisted code is still allowed, with an AI-assistance note in the PR. PRs from people who don't understand their own changes get closed.
- PR descriptions, issues and comments must be written by you in your own words. AI-written ones are closed or removed without warning.
- Mass-submitting low-quality AI-generated PRs or issues gets your account banned immediately.
- A new site policy bans helping with piracy, uploading malware and more.
crueter also pointed out in the #4588 comments that someone had broken the new rule.
Oct 30: what PR #4588 contains
The PR was opened by ponting, an account registered on October 29. Its description lists:
| Area | What it claims |
|---|---|
| Shaders | Native Ampere shader frontend with a Maxwell lowering fallback |
| CPU | 6 emulated CPU cores for Switch 2 processes |
| Services | New graphics, display, input, chat and camera services |
| Video | AV1 and H.264 decoding in the native video decoder |
| Other | Native shader disk cache, GPU fixes found while testing |
As of November 1 it added about 37,000 lines, removed about 400, touched 308 files and had 13 comments. There have been no new comments since, and as of November 3 it's still an unmerged draft. All of this comes from public pages on Eden's official code server; no media outlet has covered the comment thread yet.
The unofficial forks and Sheepish's build
On October 28, developer Sheepish compiled a private Eden build from "source code someone gave him" and got Splatoon Raiders to character select, as TechPowerUp and VideoCardz reported. On October 29, the day Eden opened registration, user Takoroka published a Windows pre-release of eden-nx2 on Eden's code server. Forks like Eglantine and Eden-NS2 followed on GitHub. Eglantine moved fastest and reached build 168 on November 3; Eden-NS2's repository was archived (read-only) when we checked on November 3, with no reason given. Sheepish said on X on October 30 that his current builds are for Eglantine.
None of these forks are connected to the Eden team, and Eden doesn't support them. XDA, DSOGaming and others covered them on October 31, though some headlines said "Eden adds Switch 2 support", which isn't accurate. Who makes each fork and what it runs is on our Eden Switch 2 forks page.
The unconfirmed part
A ResetEra thread and several social accounts say Eden will officially accept Switch 2 compatibility contributions. As of November 3 we found no public statement from Eden. What we can confirm is that a co-founder has reviewed #4588, that draft is still open, and #4619 and #4622 are awaiting review. Worth keeping in mind: at Nintendo's June 2026 shareholder meeting, president Shuntaro Furukawa said the company will respond to infringement of its IP whether or not generative AI is involved. There is no word on whether Nintendo will act against Eden or the forks.
What this means for players
Neither the stable nor the nightly builds of Eden play Switch 2 games. If you want to try Switch 2 games, the only option right now is experimental unofficial forks, where graphics bugs and crashes are common, and fake repos using names like Eglantine are already circulating (see fake Switch 2 emulator scams and how to spot fake emulator sites). The next thing to watch is whether small PRs like #4619 and #4622 get merged first, and where #4588 goes. For the bigger picture, read our Switch 2 emulation guide. To use Eden for original Switch games, see the Windows setup guide and the Android setup guide.
FAQ
Can Eden play Switch 2 games now?
Official Eden can't. As of Nov 3, 2026, stable is still v0.2.1 (June 1, 2026), and the nightlies that resumed on Nov 1 and Nov 3 only run original Switch games. Official Switch 2 code exists only in unmerged PRs: the #4588 draft plus #4619 and #4622; #4611 was closed. The builds that boot Switch 2 games like Mario Kart World are unofficial forks (Eglantine, PokeDinner, eden-nx2), and they're experimental and buggy.
Is PR #4588 from the Eden team?
No. It was opened by ponting, an account created on Oct 29. Since Oct 31, Eden co-founder Camille LaVey has been reviewing it, so the team isn't ignoring Switch 2 code, but she estimates only about 40% of it is useful. It's far from being merged.
Did Eden announce Switch 2 support?
No. As of Nov 3, 2026 there is no official statement and no official build with Switch 2 support. Headlines like 'Eden adds Switch 2 support' (Wccftech and others) are really about community forks, not Eden itself.
Where can I download Eden for Switch 2?
There is no official Eden Switch 2 build; eden-emu.dev only offers the original Switch version. eden-nx2, Eglantine and PokeDinner are unofficial Eden forks with public experimental builds, and the Eden team doesn't support them (Eden-NS2 was archived around Nov 3). Fake repos and download sites using these names have already appeared. See our Eden Switch 2 forks page.
Does Eden still accept AI-written code?
Yes. #4612, merged on Nov 1, keeps AI-assisted code allowed and asks for an AI-assistance note in the PR. But PR descriptions, issues and comments must be written by you in your own words. AI-written ones get closed without warning, and accounts that mass-submit low-quality AI content get banned.
