Fake PS5 Emulators, Fake PS4 Emulators and Fake GTA 6 PC Downloads: How to Spot Them
Key points
- Official sites: shadPS4 is shadps4.net, SharpEmu is sharpemu.app, KytyPS5 is kytyps5.github.io, AnyPS5 is boykopovar.github.io/AnyPS5. shadps4.org and sharpemu.com are not official.
- Real PS4 and PS5 emulators are free and open source. They never ask for surveys, never sell unlock codes, and never bundle a BIOS, keys or games.
- PCSX4, PCSX5 and PS5Emux are well-known scams: survey walls, fake BIOS prompts, and "gameplay" that is really a Remote Play stream.
- In October 2026 NordVPN found GitHub repos impersonating KytyPS5 and AnyPS5 that install a password stealer. Fake GTA 6 demos and PC installers spread malware too.
- As of 2026-11-01 there is no official PS4 or PS5 emulator for Android or iPhone. Claims of PS5 games at 4K60 on a phone are fake.
On this page
The fastest way to spot a fake PS4 or PS5 emulator is to know the real sites: shadPS4 is shadps4.net, SharpEmu is sharpemu.app, KytyPS5 is kytyps5.github.io, and AnyPS5 is boykopovar.github.io/AnyPS5. Every legitimate PS4 and PS5 emulator is free and open source. None of them asks for surveys, sells unlock codes, bundles a BIOS or keys, or has an official phone version. Anything that charges money, wants a survey, or advertises a "PS5 emulator for Android" or a "GTA 6 PC version" is almost certainly a scam, and some of them install password stealers.

The real official sites
| Project | Official site | Notes (2026-11-01) |
|---|---|---|
| shadPS4 (PS4) | shadps4.net | The only practical PS4 emulator. The QtLauncher GUI is linked from here too |
| SharpEmu (PS5) | sharpemu.app | README: only this site and the repo's own links are official |
| KytyPS5 (PS5) | kytyps5.github.io | The project organization's GitHub Pages site, with the compatibility list |
| AnyPS5 (PS5 to native) | boykopovar.github.io/AnyPS5 | The developer's GitHub Pages site |
| Bachata S4 (PS4 on Android) | bachatas4.games | Unofficial Android fork of shadPS4 with its own site |
| fpPS4 (PS4) | fpps4.net | Core rewrite in progress |
| Obliteration (PS4) | obliteration.net | Cannot run games yet |
| bbport, Bloodborne-Android | No website | Released only on a code-hosting site. Any "official site" for them is fake |
When the RPCS3 team highlighted the two active PS5 emulators (SharpEmu and KytyPS5) on X on 2026-07-17, it added a warning: "Be careful to not fall for scam websites pretending to be real emulators!"
Copycat domains (named, not linked)
| Domain | Impersonates | Notes |
|---|---|---|
shadps4.org | shadPS4 | Ranks high, not official. The README points to shadps4.net |
sharpemu.com | SharpEmu | SharpEmu's README only recognizes sharpemu.app |
kytyps5emu.com | KytyPS5 | Third-party site. The real one is kytyps5.github.io |
anyps5.blog, anyps5.app | AnyPS5 | Third-party sites. The real one is on boykopovar.github.io |
Typical signs: "ultimate guide" pages that read like AI filler, version numbers and dates that do not match the official project, download buttons that bounce through ad pages, or a custom "installer" that the real project never shipped.
The classic scams: PCSX4, PCSX5, PS5Emux
| Name | How it works |
|---|---|
| PCSX4 | Emulation General Wiki calls it "a highly sophisticated and persistent" PS4/PS5 emulator scam. The site mimics RPCS3, borrows the PCSX2 naming, uses aggressive SEO to rank for "PS4 emulator" and "PS5 emulator", and blocks the download with endless surveys. It even set up a GitHub repo to look legitimate. PC Gamer warned about it back in 2019 |
| PCSX5, PS5Emux | Emulation General Wiki's PS5 page describes standalone scam portals that lock non-working installers behind surveys or fake BIOS/key prompts. PS5Emux also claims Android and iOS versions are in development |
| PS4U | Posted "Bloodborne running in an emulator" footage that was really slowed-down video with filters inside a fake window |
One trick is worth remembering: Remote Play dressed up as an emulator. Emulation General Wiki points out that you can take an open-source PS4/PS5 Remote Play client, change its look, add fake hardware stats, and produce a video of "PS5 games at 4K60 on PC" that is really streamed from a console. If an emulator that good existed, every tech outlet would be covering it.
The 2026 trick: fake GitHub repositories
Once PS5 emulation got hot in 2026, scammers started copying real projects directly:
- NordVPN found repos impersonating KytyPS5 and AnyPS5 in October 2026 (covered by Engadget, Tom's Hardware and TechPowerUp). The zip contains a Windows program that checks whether it is in a virtual machine. On a normal PC it adds Windows Defender exclusions, decrypts and runs a password stealer, then wipes its traces about two minutes later. The repos get replaced as fast as they are removed.
- Emulation General Wiki also describes fake repos that pad their commit history and language stats to look active, then put info stealers in the Releases tab.
How to stay safe: download only from the official sites above, or from the repository those sites link to. If you find a same-named repo through GitHub search, check that it is the one the official site links.
"PS5 emulator for Android" and "PS4 emulator for iPhone"
As of 2026-11-01:
- There is no official PS4 or PS5 emulator for any phone. shadPS4, SharpEmu, KytyPS5 and AnyPS5 are PC-only.
- The real Android projects are unofficial experiments: Bachata S4 (a shadPS4 fork) and Bloodborne-Android, which only runs Bloodborne, on the PS4 side, and experiments like sharpdroid on the PS5 side. All need a high-end Snapdragon phone and frame rates are limited. See PS4 emulation on Android and PS4 and PS5 emulators on iPhone.
- App stores carry plenty of apps named "PS4 Emulator" or "PS5 Emulator", and some say in their own description that they only simulate an interface or are a prank. Emulation General Wiki also notes repackaged emulators stuffed with ads being passed off as new ones.
So any APK, video or site promising PS5 games at 4K60 on a phone is fake. PC emulators cannot run big PS5 games smoothly yet (see PS5 emulator status), and phones are far weaker.
Fake GTA 6 PC versions and demos
GTA 6 launches on 2026-11-19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. There is no PC version and no demo (see can you play GTA 6 on PC). Every GTA 6 download is fake:
- Malwarebytes (August 2026): fake Rockstar "demo" sites push a program that steals saved browser passwords, cookies and login sessions. Stolen sessions may get around two-factor authentication.
- Huntress (via TechRadar, September 2026): 100GB+ "GTA 6 installers" pushed up search results carry remote access trojans, info stealers and ransomware, then show a fake "license not found" message to buy time.
- "A PS5 emulator that runs GTA 6": no emulator can run GTA 6, so the claim alone proves it is fake.
Paid "unlocks" and "early access"
Real PS4 and PS5 emulator projects may accept donations (GitHub Sponsors, Ko-fi and the like), but they never lock a working build behind a paywall and never sell activation codes or beta access. Emulation General Wiki has documented several "pay for an early build" scams: a fake video first, then a push to a subscription platform, then nothing.
Checklist
Before trusting a "PS4/PS5 emulator site", run through this:
- Does the domain match the official table above?
- Does it ask for money, a survey, or ad views to get an "unlock code"? Then it is fake.
- Does it bundle games, a BIOS, keys or firmware? Real emulators never do.
- Does it state its open-source license and where the code lives? Closed-source paid "PS5 emulators" are fakes.
- Is it a phone PS5 emulator, or does it claim to run an unreleased game like GTA 6? That alone gives it away.
- Does the installer ask you to disable antivirus, run as administrator, or leave new Windows Defender exclusions behind?
- Is the demo footage suspiciously perfect? Flawless 4K60 with zero glitches more likely means a Remote Play stream.
If you already installed one
- Disconnect from the internet, uninstall the program and run a full scan with up-to-date security software.
- Open Windows Security and check the exclusions list for unfamiliar folders or whole drives. Remove them.
- Change passwords for every account used on that PC (email, Steam, PSN, social apps, banking) and turn on two-factor authentication, ideally from another device. If you paid, contact your payment provider.
- Reinstall emulators only from the official sites above.
FAQ
What is the official shadPS4 website?
shadps4.net. The shadPS4 README and its GitHub homepage both point there. shadps4.org, which ranks high in search, is not the official site.
What is the official SharpEmu website?
sharpemu.app. SharpEmu's README says only sharpemu.app and the links listed in its repository are affiliated with the project, and any other websites, accounts or donation pages are unofficial. sharpemu.com is not official.
Is PCSX4 real?
No, it is a scam. Emulation General Wiki and PC Gamer have both called it out. PCSX4 imitates real emulator sites, uses SEO to rank for "PS4 emulator" and "PS5 emulator", hides the download behind surveys, and fakes gameplay by streaming a real console through a Remote Play client.
Is there a PS5 emulator APK for Android?
Not an official one. SharpEmu, KytyPS5 and AnyPS5 only release PC builds. Android has unofficial experiments like sharpdroid. Any APK claiming to run big PS5 games smoothly is not credible.
Are emulators on GitHub always safe?
No. In October 2026 NordVPN found GitHub repositories impersonating KytyPS5 and AnyPS5. The download adds Windows Defender exclusions and installs a password stealer. Only download from the official site or the repository it links to.
What should I do if I installed a fake emulator?
Disconnect from the internet, uninstall it and run a full scan with up-to-date security software. Check Windows Defender for exclusions you did not add. Change passwords for accounts used on that PC (email, Steam, PSN, banking) and turn on two-factor authentication. If you paid, contact your payment provider.
