PS4 and PS5 Emulator for iPhone and iPad: Does One Exist? (November 2026)
Key points
- As of November 1, 2026, no emulator plays commercial PS4 or PS5 games properly on iPhone or iPad. shadPS4 doesn't support iOS, and none of the PS5 emulators has an iOS version.
- The obstacles: PS4 and PS5 are x86-64 and iPhones are ARM, so code needs live JIT translation, which App Store apps can't use. iOS also caps one app at about 6GB; the PS4 has 8GB, the PS5 16GB.
- A few sideloaded experiments exist, such as AetherPS4 (built on shadPS4). All need a tool like StikDebug to enable JIT, and there are no reliable reports of 3D commercial games running.
- Apps and sites claiming to be an iPhone PS4 or PS5 emulator are fake; their demos are usually remote streams.
- The realistic option is streaming: Sony's official PS Remote Play from your own PS4 or PS5, or shadPS4 on a PC streamed to the iPhone with Moonlight.

As of November 1, 2026, no emulator plays commercial PS4 or PS5 games properly on iPhone or iPad. The PS4 emulator shadPS4 officially supports only Windows, Linux and macOS, and the PS5 emulators SharpEmu and KytyPS5 have no iOS versions either. Apps and sites calling themselves an iPhone PS4 or PS5 emulator are fake. The realistic way to play PS4 or PS5 games on an iPhone is streaming, either from your own console or from a PC running the emulator.
Why it can't be done on iPhone yet
| Obstacle | What it means |
|---|---|
| CPU architecture | The PS4 uses an AMD x86-64 CPU (8-core Jaguar) and the PS5 an x86-64 Zen 2; iPhones and iPads are ARM. Game code has to be translated to ARM on the fly |
| JIT restrictions | On-the-fly translation is JIT. Apple has allowed emulators on the App Store since April 2024, but App Store apps can't use JIT, and third-party stores in the EU have the same technical limit (heise). JIT requires sideloading plus a tool like StikDebug, and from iOS 26 only apps updated for its new method work |
| Memory | The PS4 has 8GB of shared memory and the PS5 16GB. iOS caps how much one app can use; per MeloNX, iPhones with 8GB or 12GB of RAM both top out around 6GB, and that requires a special entitlement |
| Graphics | PS4 and PS5 GPU commands would have to become Vulkan and then Metal. The KosmicKrisp driver used by shadPS4 on Mac has no iOS support yet, per the Mesa docs |
On a PC, shadPS4 runs PS4 x86 code directly, which is why it's fast. On a Mac it already relies on Apple's Rosetta 2 for translation and is noticeably slower (see the Mac guide). iPhones have no Rosetta 2, so translation would have to come from the emulator's own JIT, which runs straight into iOS's JIT limits.
The experiments that exist
There are a few attempts on GitHub to bring shadPS4 to iOS. AetherPS4 is the most complete: it's built on shadPS4 with an ARM64 port of FEXCore doing x86-64 to ARM64 JIT, plus a native iOS interface. Its own notes say sideloaded iOS apps can't get the JIT entitlement, so an external tool like StikDebug is required.
As of November 1, 2026, these projects:
- are not on the App Store and must be sideloaded;
- have no reliable press reports of 3D commercial PS4 games running, and no reliable public compatibility testing;
- are not official shadPS4 projects.
PS5 is harder still. PS5 emulators are only getting started on PC, and among the Android projects that target PS4 and PS5, Lumen Emu states that iOS is not in its plans.
How to spot a fake iPhone PS4 or PS5 emulator
- "PS4 emulator" or "PS5 emulator" on the App Store: as of November 2026 no working one exists. Apps with those words in the name are not emulators that run PS4 or PS5 games.
- Surveys or payment before the download: PCSX4 is the classic example, ranking high for "PS4 emulator" and "PS5 emulator" searches through SEO.
- PS5 emulators that claim an iOS version: Emulation General Wiki calls out PS5Emux.
- Smooth demo videos: reskin an open-source Remote Play client and a real console's stream looks like "emulation". It's a common way these videos are faked.
What people actually do: streaming
| Method | What you need | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PS Remote Play | Your own PS4 or PS5 and Sony's free PS Remote Play app on the iPhone | The game runs on the console; Sony requires 5Mbps and recommends 15Mbps; DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers work |
| shadPS4 on a PC + streaming | A PC that can run shadPS4, host streaming software on the PC, Moonlight on the iPhone | The game is emulated on the PC and the iPhone only displays it; PC specs are in PS4 emulator PC requirements |
The second method only works if the PC can run the game. Set up shadPS4 with the Windows guide, confirm the game plays on the PC, then add streaming.

FAQ
Is there a PS4 or PS5 emulator on the App Store?
Not a working one as of November 2026. Apple has allowed console emulators on the App Store since April 2024, but App Store apps can't use JIT, and emulating x86 consoles like the PS4 and PS5 depends on it. Any App Store app with PS4 or PS5 emulator in its name is either something else or a scam.
Does shadPS4 have an iOS version?
No. shadPS4 officially supports Windows, Linux and macOS. People on GitHub have tried porting it to iOS, AetherPS4 for example, but they need sideloading and an external JIT tool, and as of November 2026 no reliable outlet has reported 3D commercial games running.
An M-series iPad Pro is so powerful. Why doesn't it work?
Raw power isn't the only problem. iPadOS, like iOS, blocks JIT for App Store apps, so you'd have to sideload and enable JIT separately. The system caps how much memory one app can use. And KosmicKrisp, the Vulkan driver shadPS4 uses on Mac, doesn't support iOS yet. So even M-series iPads have no PS4 or PS5 emulator that plays games as of November 2026.
I saw a video of an iPhone running PS5 games smoothly. How?
Almost always it's streaming: the game runs on a real PS5 or PC and the picture is sent to the phone with something like Remote Play. Some scams take an open-source Remote Play client and reskin it as an emulator. Sites like PS5Emux even claim iOS versions; they're fake.
So how do people actually play PS4 or PS5 games on an iPhone?
If you have a console, use Sony's official PS Remote Play app (free on the App Store) to stream from your own PS4 or PS5; Sony recommends at least 15Mbps. Without a console but with a capable PC, run PS4 games in shadPS4 on the PC and stream the screen to the iPhone with a client like Moonlight.
Will the iPhone get a usable PS4 emulator later?
No project has a timeline. Android already has experimental shadPS4-based ports, yet even on Snapdragon 8 Elite phones only a handful of games reach gameplay at low frame rates, and iOS adds the JIT restriction on top. Don't expect one soon.
