Super Mario Odyssey PC port: Power Moon Recomp is finishable, Bayonetta 3 and Xenoblade X recomps follow
Key points
- Power Moon Recomp, a static recompilation of Super Mario Odyssey 1.0.0, released v0.1.0 on Nov 2, 2026 and reached v0.1.5 the same day. Windows and Linux are playable; macOS is an early beta.
- The README says every kingdom, boss, 2D and 8-bit section, the ending and post-game were played through. 60 fps, up to 4x resolution, FSR 1, SMAA and RomFS mods. No independent test yet.
- The author credits heavy help from Claude. Per Tarreo and PCMRace, the author says their GitHub account was banned after uploading, so the project moved to GitLab. Reason unconfirmed.
- Witch Time, a Bayonetta 3 recomp for Windows and Linux, claims 60 fps in Tokyo and Shibuya. XCX Recomp runs Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition natively on Windows at 60 fps.
- GitHub's public DMCA archive has no matching Nintendo notice as of Nov 3. Each recomp supports only one game and specific versions.

Yes, Super Mario Odyssey now has an unofficial native PC port, and its author says you can play it to the end. Power Moon Recomp, a static recompilation of Super Mario Odyssey 1.0.0, released v0.1.0 on November 2, 2026 and reached v0.1.5 the same day. It runs on Windows and Linux at 60 fps, with an early macOS beta. Recomps of Bayonetta 3 (Witch Time) and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition (XCX Recomp) appeared in the same days. The author says their GitHub account was banned and the project moved to GitLab; why is unconfirmed.
Power Moon Recomp
By Zarathustra Dev. Per the README:
| Details | |
|---|---|
| Versions | v0.1.0 on Nov 2, v0.1.5 the same day |
| Game version | Super Mario Odyssey 1.0.0 only, without updates |
| Progress | "Playable from start to finish": all kingdoms, bosses, 2D and 8-bit sections, the ending and post-game played through |
| Frame rate | 60 fps; the game logic is tied to frame rate, so it can't go higher |
| Graphics | Vulkan, up to 4x resolution, FSR 1, SMAA |
| Mods | RomFS mods supported |
| Platforms | Windows and Linux playable; macOS (Metal) is an early beta |
| AI | Written "with heavy help from an AI coding agent (Claude)," directed and tested by a human |
"Finishable" is the author's claim; PCMRace notes there is no independent testing yet. Like other recomps, it doesn't include the game; you build it from your own files.
GitHub ban and move to GitLab (author's account)
The project is now hosted on GitLab. Its original GitHub address returned 404 on November 3. Tarreo and PCMRace relay the author's account: the GitHub account was banned after the upload, so the project moved. Why the account was banned is unconfirmed: GitHub's public DMCA archive has no matching notice. Another Odyssey recomp, smo-recomp (targeting version 1.4.1, no release builds), is still on GitHub.
Bayonetta 3: Witch Time
Witch Time by Zexyen is a static recompilation of Bayonetta 3 for Windows and Linux. The author claims 60 fps in the Tokyo and Shibuya areas and resolutions up to 4K, with occasional stutter. The repository was created on October 24 and drew coverage around November 1.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: XCX Recomp
XCX Recomp by jmars125 (started October 31) runs Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition natively on Windows at 60 fps by default. Starting a new game, cutscenes and combat work. v0.1.3 fixed Soul Challenge prompts going too fast above 30 fps. Linux and Steam Deck builds are planned.
Where the recomp wave stands
| Game | Project | Platforms | Status (per the project) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super Mario Odyssey | Power Moon Recomp | Windows, Linux, macOS beta | Finishable (author's claim), 1.0.0 only |
| Bayonetta 3 | Witch Time | Windows, Linux | 60 fps in Tokyo and Shibuya, occasional stutter |
| Xenoblade Chronicles X: DE | XCX Recomp | Windows | 60 fps default; new game, cutscenes, combat |
| Pokémon Pokopia (Switch 2) | pokopia-recomp | Windows | Test build, see the Pokopia story |
These join the October projects for Link's Awakening, Smash Ultimate, Metroid Dread, TotK and others covered in the October recomp wave. As of November 3, 2026, GitHub's public DMCA archive has no Nintendo notice against any of them; the November folder did not exist yet, and GitHub publishes with a delay.
What this means for players
If you own Super Mario Odyssey 1.0.0, you can now try it as a native PC game with 4x resolution and mod support, though "finishable" has only the author's word behind it for now. The project has already changed hosts once, so it may move or disappear again. Copies repackaged with the game included are not from the project; see how to spot fake emulator sites.
If your copy is updated, or you want other games, a Switch emulator still covers more: see the Super Mario Odyssey compatibility page, the best Switch emulators in 2026, the Windows setup guide and hardware requirements. Bayonetta 3 and Xenoblade X details are on the Bayonetta 3 and Xenoblade X pages.
FAQ
Is there a PC port of Super Mario Odyssey?
Not an official one. Since November 2, 2026, an unofficial project called Power Moon Recomp turns your own copy of Super Mario Odyssey 1.0.0 into a native PC program through static recompilation. Windows and Linux are playable; the macOS build is an early beta.
Can you finish Super Mario Odyssey with Power Moon Recomp?
The author says yes: per the README, all kingdoms, bosses, 2D and 8-bit sections, the ending and post-game content were played through without problems. PCMRace notes there is no independent testing yet.
What game version does Power Moon Recomp need?
Version 1.0.0 of Super Mario Odyssey, without updates. It runs at 60 fps; higher is not possible because the game logic is tied to frame rate. Rendering is Vulkan with up to 4x resolution, FSR 1 and SMAA, and RomFS mods are supported.
Why is Power Moon Recomp on GitLab instead of GitHub?
Per Tarreo and PCMRace, the author says their GitHub account was banned after uploading the project, so it moved to GitLab. The original GitHub address returned 404 on November 3. The reason for the ban is unconfirmed, and GitHub's public DMCA archive has no matching notice.
Are there PC ports of Bayonetta 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles X?
Unofficial ones. Witch Time is a Bayonetta 3 static recompilation for Windows and Linux; its author claims 60 fps in the Tokyo and Shibuya areas and up to 4K, with occasional stutter. XCX Recomp runs Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition natively on Windows at 60 fps by default; new games, cutscenes and combat work, and Linux and Steam Deck are planned.
Is Power Moon Recomp better than an emulator for Odyssey?
It depends. Odyssey already runs well on Switch emulators, which take any game version and updates. The recomp runs without an emulation layer and adds options such as 4x resolution and RomFS mods, but only accepts 1.0.0 and is brand new.
