Eden v0.2.0 at One Year: Two DMCA Notices, a Melted Server, and the v0.2.2 That Doesn't Exist

Published Updated 3 min read

Key points

  • Eden marked its first anniversary with v0.2.0 on May 13, 2026: 22.0 firmware support, a built-in auto-updater, a crash fix that lets Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream boot, and many Vulkan fixes.
  • In the three months before, Eden was hit by DMCA notices on Feb 12 and Mar 27 that blocked its GitHub release and test-build repos. Downloads moved to its own server and Backblaze.
  • When Tomodachi Life launched on Apr 16, a rush of users burned 2.5 TB of Eden's bandwidth in four hours. The server was reachable only 15% of the next 24 hours.
  • v0.2.1 (Jun 1) is the latest stable release as of Oct 30, 2026. The 'v0.2.2 (Sept 11, 2026)' you see online appears in neither the official release list nor the tags.

Eden released v0.2.0 on May 13, 2026, one year after the project started. Its official X account wrote: "v0.2.0 has released! it's been 1 year since we started this project and we can't be thankful enough for the support!" The release notes thank the community for sticking with the project through drama, server overloads, DMCA notices, maintenance nightmares, odd hardware ports and threats from every direction. The update adds 22.0 firmware support and a built-in updater, and fixes Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream so it boots. v0.2.1 on June 1 is the latest stable release as of October 30, 2026. The v0.2.2 circulating online doesn't appear in the official list.

What's in v0.2.0

From the official notes and Android Authority's report:

  • Support for Switch firmware 22.0;
  • A built-in auto-updater;
  • A shared memory crash fix that lets Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream boot;
  • Many Vulkan fixes and improvements;
  • SPIRV-Opt removed, so shaders compile faster;
  • On Android: better compatibility and performance on Snapdragon devices, a setting for the number of "Vulkan workers," and a "Legacy Rescale Pass" option that fixes Luigi's Mansion 3 when the resolution is scaled up.

The three months before

Two DMCA notices

On February 12, 2026, a Nintendo DMCA notice named 13 emulators and listed Eden's main GitHub release repository. Eden's project manager said on Discord that the source code isn't hosted on GitHub, isn't affected, and development would continue. Founder Camille LaVey said the team wants to keep doing preservation work so people who own games can enjoy them beyond the original hardware. Three days later, on February 15, Eden shipped v0.2.0-rc1 on schedule and filed a counter-notice, but the release repository was still disabled in early March.

A second notice on March 27 targeted three build repositories: Eden-CI Nightly, Master and PR. Eden's blog said testers and developers relied on Master and PR builds daily, and losing them would seriously slow development. Nightlies moved to Eden's own code server, and the frequent test builds moved to Backblaze. rc2 landed on March 16, between the two notices.

Tomodachi Life melts the server

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launched on April 16 and sold about as many copies in its first week as Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Huge numbers of users rushed to download Eden. The numbers from Eden's blog:

MetricFigure
Daily bandwidth cap2 TB (normally 200–800 GB)
Actual use2.5 TB in four hours, then throttled for the rest of the day
Request volumeNearly triple normal; peaks above 50,000 per second
Uptime in the 24 hours after launch15%

The blog also noted the game couldn't be emulated at the time ("no it can't, use your brain"). The team put all downloads and API responses behind Cloudflare caching and eventually moved builds to Backblaze too. The blog admits this run of problems is the main reason the stable release went so long without an update. v0.2.0 arrived on May 13 and fixed the game's boot issue.

v0.2.1, and the v0.2.2 that doesn't exist

v0.2.1 on June 1 is a bug-fix release for 0.2.0. It fixes crashes caused by many games and external content, crashes on 12th-gen Intel CPUs, and a freeze in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe when opening the native controller settings screen. On Windows, the auto-updater now pulls the build that matches your build ID.

Since then, plenty of sites have claimed that "Eden v0.2.2 was released on Sept 11, 2026, fixing 12th-gen Intel crashes." But Eden's official release list and tags contain no v0.2.2, and that description nearly matches the official v0.2.1 notes. It is most likely made up or garbled by SEO sites. As of October 30, 2026, the latest stable release is still v0.2.1, and nightly builds run through October 18.

FAQ

What is the latest version of Eden?

As of Oct 30, 2026, the latest stable release is v0.2.1 (Jun 1, 2026). Since then there have only been nightly builds, the newest from Oct 18, 2026.

Is Eden v0.2.2 real?

There's no evidence it is. Neither Eden's official release list nor its tags include v0.2.2. The claimed 'v0.2.2 (Sept 11, 2026) fixes 12th-gen Intel crashes' matches the official v0.2.1 notes and mostly comes from third-party SEO sites. Don't download from them.

What changed in Eden v0.2.0?

22.0 firmware support, a built-in auto-updater, a shared memory crash fix (which lets Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream boot), many Vulkan fixes, and removal of SPIRV-Opt for faster shader compilation. On Android, Snapdragon compatibility and performance improved, and a 'Legacy Rescale Pass' option fixes Luigi's Mansion 3 at higher resolutions.

Does Eden still work after the DMCA notices?

Yes. Both notices hit GitHub release and test-build repositories; the source code was never hosted on GitHub. Stable and nightly builds are now distributed from Eden's own servers. Get them via the official site, eden-emu.dev.
