Eden "Error while loading ROM!" (0007-XXXX) Codes Explained: 0007-0015, 000E, 0012 and More
Key points
- 'Error while loading ROM! (0007-XXXX)' is the load failure dialog in Eden and Citron Neo on PC. 0007 means a loader error; the last four digits and the first message line name the cause.
- The most common one is 0007-0015: your keys are older than the game. Redump a newer prod.keys and keep keys and firmware on the same version.
- 0007-000D means no keys are installed, 0007-000E means your keys are incomplete, and 0007-0012 means a digital title is missing its title key.
- 0007-003C means you opened an update instead of the game, 0007-001A means the base game needs its update to boot, and 0007-0043 means the file is damaged.
- The log line 'keys for gen 0xNN+ required' tells you which key generation is missing.

"Error while loading ROM! (0007-XXXX)" is the dialog Eden and Citron Neo on PC show when a game fails to load. The 0007 means "loader error", the last four digits identify the cause, and the first line of the message states it in plain English. The common ones: 0007-0015 means your keys are older than the game, so redump a newer prod.keys. 0007-000D and 0007-000E mean keys are missing or incomplete. 0007-0012 means a digital title is missing its title key. 0007-003C means you opened an update instead of the game. Below is every code you're likely to hit, taken from Eden's source code, with its meaning and fix.
The exact error text
Eden on PC (Windows, Linux, Steam Deck, Mac):
Error while loading ROM! (0007-0015)
The key area key for this application type and crypto revision could not be found.
Please redump your files or ask on Discord/Stoat for help.
Citron Neo on PC has the same middle line and a different last line:
Error while loading ROM! (0007-0015)
The key area key for this application type and crypto revision could not be found.
For support, please visit Help > Get Support (Discord) in the main emulation window.
The middle line comes from the emulator core, so it stays in English in every interface language. Search for that line to get the most precise results.
The same title also appears in two variants without a code:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
The ROM format is not supported. | Eden can't recognize the file format. The extension was changed, the file is incomplete, or it isn't a Switch game file |
An unknown error occurred. Please see the log for more details. | A failure outside the loader, such as missing system files or shared fonts. Check the log |
If the dialog says "An error occurred initializing the video core.", that's a GPU driver problem. See Vulkan and video core errors.
How to read the code
In Eden's source, launch result number 7 is ErrorLoader, so the first four digits are always 0007. The last four digits are the loader error number in hexadecimal. Eden and Citron Neo have identical loader error lists, so each code means the same thing in both. The yuzu-era explanations you'll find online ("0007-0015 = key area key", "0007-000E = NCA Header key") use the same numbering.
Error code table
There are 68 codes in total. These are the ones people actually run into. The "Message" column is the first line of the dialog text.
Key-related codes
| Code | Message | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0007-000C | The NCA file has a bad header. | The file header can't be read. The file is damaged, or the keys are wrong | Verify integrity first. If the file is fine, redump prod.keys |
| 0007-000D | The general keyfile could not be found. | No keys file found | Tools > Install Decryption Keys, pick prod.keys, restart Eden |
| 0007-000E | The NCA Header key could not be found. | Your keys file lacks the NCA header key. Usually the keys are incomplete or you picked the wrong file | Redump a complete prod.keys |
| 0007-000F | The NCA Header key is incorrect or the header is invalid. | Wrong header key, or a damaged file | Redump prod.keys and verify integrity |
| 0007-0012 | The titlekey for this Rights ID could not be found. | A digital game, update or DLC is missing its title key | Put title.keys in the same folder as prod.keys and install keys again (see below). If that fails, redump title.keys or the file |
| 0007-0013 | The titlekek for this crypto revision could not be found. | Keys too old; this generation's key is missing | Use newer keys (see the gen table below) |
| 0007-0015 | The key area key for this application type and crypto revision could not be found. | Most common: your keys are older than the game | Redump prod.keys from a console on a system version at least as new as the game needs. Update firmware to the same version |
| 0007-0016 | The key area key is incorrect or the section header is invalid. | Wrong key, or a damaged file | Redump keys and verify integrity |
| 0007-0017 | The titlekey and/or titlekek is incorrect or the section header is invalid. | Wrong title key, or a damaged file | Redump title.keys or the file |
File and game codes
| Code | Message | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0007-0018 | The XCI file is missing a Program-type NCA. | The cartridge image (XCI) has no base game in it | Use a file that contains the base game. Install updates and DLC with File > Install Files to NAND |
| 0007-0019 | The NCA file is not an application. | The NCA you opened isn't a game program | Open the base game |
| 0007-001A | The Program-type NCA contains no executable. An update may be required. | The base game has no executable and needs its update to boot | Install the game's official update |
| 0007-001D | The file could not be found or does not exist. | The file was moved or renamed, or the drive letter changed | Re-add the game folder |
| 0007-001F | The game uses the currently-unimplemented 32-bit architecture. | A 32-bit game, which Eden doesn't implement yet | Try another emulator such as Ryubing. Results depend on the game |
| 0007-0021 | The RomFS could not be found. | The game's data section is missing. Often an incomplete file or a keys problem | Verify integrity, then check your keys |
| 0007-0034 | The NSP file is missing a Program-type NCA. | The NSP has no base game. It's probably an update or DLC package | Open the base game. Install this NSP with Install Files to NAND |
| 0007-003C | Game updates cannot be loaded directly. Load the base game instead. | You opened an update instead of the game | Open the base game. Install the update with File > Install Files to NAND |
| 0007-003D | The NSP or XCI does not contain an update in addition to the base game. | This combined package has the base game but no update | Install the update separately |
| 0007-0043 | Integrity verification failed. | Integrity check failed; the file is damaged | Redump the file |
Check the log first
Open the log with File > Open Eden Folders > Log Folder. On Windows the default location is %AppData%\Eden\log. A failed load logs a line like Failed to load ROM! (0007-0015). If your keys are too old, you'll also see:
Cannot decrypt <file name>: keys for gen 0x15+ required.
gen is the key generation the game file (NCA) requires. Based on SwitchBrew's format notes, your keys must come from at least this system version:
| gen | 0x10 | 0x11 | 0x12 | 0x13 | 0x14 | 0x15 | 0x16 | 0x17 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| System version | 16.0.0 | 17.0.0 | 18.0.0 | 19.0.0 | 20.0.0 | 21.0.0 | 22.0.0 | 23.0.0 |
Also, if Eden on PC has no keys, it shows "Derivation Components Missing" right at startup, before you open any game. If you see that, install your keys first. Details are in Eden keys and firmware install errors.
Fixing key errors
- Where to install: Tools > Install Decryption Keys. It only accepts
.keysfiles and copies them into thekeysfolder in Eden's data directory (%AppData%\eden\keyson Windows). Restart Eden afterward. - title.keys comes along: Per Eden's source, when you pick prod.keys, a
title.keysin the same folder is copied too. Put both files in one folder and install again. - Versions: Your keys must cover the generation the game needs (check gen in the log) and must not be older than your firmware. After a console system update, redump and replace keys and firmware together.
- For the background and where each emulator stores keys, see prod.keys, title.keys and firmware explained.
Fixing file errors
- Verify integrity: Right-click the game in the list > Verify Integrity. To check every update and DLC installed to NAND at once, use Tools > Verify Installed Contents. If verification fails, redump that file.
- Updates and DLC: Don't open them directly. Install them with File > Install Files to NAND..., then open the base game.
- New games from the second half of 2026: Games built with the Switch 22.0+ SDK use new ZBIC compression for their main program. Eden added support on 2026-09-27, so stable v0.2.1 (2026-06-01) can't read them. There's no official word on which error code older builds show here. If your keys are fine and only new releases fail, get a Nightly build from the Eden official site and try again.

FAQ
What does Error while loading ROM! (0007-0015) mean in Eden?
The message is 'The key area key for this application type and crypto revision could not be found.' Your keys lack the key generation this game uses, which means they're older than the game. Redump prod.keys from a console on a system version at least as new as the game needs, install it with Tools > Install Decryption Keys, and update firmware to the same version.
How do I fix 0007-000E or 0007-000D?
0007-000D means Eden found no keys file. Use Tools > Install Decryption Keys, pick prod.keys and restart Eden. 0007-000E means your keys file lacks the NCA header key, usually because the keys are incomplete or you picked the wrong file. Redump a complete prod.keys.
What is error 0007-0012?
The message is 'The titlekey for this Rights ID could not be found.' A digital game, update or DLC is missing its title key. Put title.keys in the same folder as prod.keys and run Tools > Install Decryption Keys again, choosing prod.keys. Eden copies the title.keys next to it as well. If that doesn't help, redump title.keys or the file.
What does 0007-003C mean?
The message is 'Game updates cannot be loaded directly. Load the base game instead.' You opened an update file. Open the base game, and install the update with File > Install Files to NAND.
Does Citron Neo use the same 0007 codes as Eden?
Yes. Both emulators have identical loader error lists, so every code means the same thing in both. Only the last line differs: Eden says 'Please redump your files or ask on Discord/Stoat for help.' and Citron Neo says 'For support, please visit Help > Get Support (Discord) in the main emulation window.'
Why is there no 0007 code on Eden for Android?
The Android version doesn't show loader codes. Any launch failure other than a GPU init failure shows 'Your ROM is encrypted', and the line under it tells you the cause.
Is Ryujinx's RYU-0001 the same kind of error?
No. RYU-0001 to RYU-0004 are Ryubing and Kenji-NX's own codes and don't map to Eden's 0007 codes. See the Ryubing error guide.
What does 'The ROM format is not supported.' mean?
Eden couldn't recognize the file format. The extension may have been changed, the file may be incomplete, or it isn't a Switch game file at all. Use the game file in its original format, such as NSP or XCI.
