Sony Stops Porting Single-Player Games to PC: PS5 Exclusives Now Rely on Emulation. Where It Stands
Key points
- On March 4, 2026, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that Sony's first-party single-player games will stay on PlayStation, and Ghost of Yotei and Saros won't come to PC.
- On May 18, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed at a staff town hall that narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive (reported by Bloomberg; not a public statement).
- Online games like Marathon stay multiplatform, and games from non-first-party studios, like Ember Lab's Kena: Scars of Kosmora, aren't affected.
- Marvel's Wolverine launched in September on PS5 only, and the press widely tied the policy to the PS5 emulation boom that started in July.
- As of Nov 1, Astro Bot, Demon's Souls, Ghost of Yotei, Saros and Wolverine only reach gameplay in PS5 emulators, at 1 to 30 FPS. None is playable through yet.

According to Bloomberg, Sony stopped porting its first-party single-player games to PC in 2026, and PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed it at a staff town hall on May 18. That leaves emulation as the only way to play PS5 exclusives like Ghost of Yotei, Saros and Marvel's Wolverine on a PC. As of November 2026, PS5 emulators can only get those games into gameplay; none of them is playable yet.
What happened
| Date | Event | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Mar 4, 2026 | Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that Sony's first-party single-player games will stay on PlayStation; in recent weeks Sony had scrapped plans to bring Ghost of Yotei and other internal games to PC | Push Square, Notebookcheck |

| Sept 2026 | Marvel's Wolverine launches on PS5 only | Wccftech |
A few distinctions:
- Scope: only single-player games from Sony's first-party studios. Online games like Marathon and Marvel Tokon stay multiplatform; games from other studios that Sony publishes, such as Ember Lab's Kena: Scars of Kosmora, are still planned for PC in 2026 (TechRadar).
- Not a public statement: Hulst spoke to staff and Bloomberg reported it. Sony hasn't made a public announcement.
- Reasons (per Bloomberg's sources): concern that PC releases hurt the console brand and PS5 sales; recent PC ports sold below expectations (most of the $1.5 billion-plus Sony earned on Steam came from the online game Helldivers 2); PC players resisted mandatory PSN accounts; and the next Xbox is more like a PC.
Before this, Sony's single-player hits usually reached PC a year or more after console, such as Ghost of Tsushima, which arrived on Steam in May 2024 (Notebookcheck).
The link to the emulation boom
Starting in July, three PS5 projects appeared in quick succession, SharpEmu, KytyPS5 and AnyPS5, and moved fast. In September, Tom's Hardware directly tied the PS5 emulation surge to Sony ending PC ports. Wccftech wrote on September 30 that Astro Bot and Wolverine are exactly the games PC players could have expected on Steam a couple of years ago, and that PS5 emulators are now the only way to play them on PC.
Where PS5 exclusives stand in emulators
As of November 1, 2026:
| Game | Best result | Project | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astro Bot | In-game; about 11 FPS on official builds, 30-60 FPS in the opening on the BryKytyPS5 fork | KytyPS5 | Wccftech (Sept 30) |
| Demon's Souls (remake) | In-game, about 30 FPS | KytyPS5 | Wccftech (Sept 30) |
| Marvel's Wolverine | Launches, plays like a slideshow | KytyPS5 | Wccftech (Sept 30) |
| Ghost of Yotei | In-game, about 1 FPS, many rendering issues | SharpEmu | SharpEmu compatibility list (Oct 12) |
| Saros | In-game | SharpEmu | SharpEmu compatibility list (Oct 20) |
The PS5 games that play reliably are mostly 2D and indie titles, such as Hollow Knight on SharpEmu (reported at 60 FPS on Oct 14). Big 3D exclusives are generally stuck on two things: frame rates far too low and lots of rendering errors.
What this means for players
If you only game on PC, Sony's new single-player releases are likely out of reach for a while: there's no official PC version, and emulators only get them in-game. Older games that already have PC versions, like Ghost of Tsushima, aren't affected. To track PS5 exclusives in emulators, follow the KytyPS5, SharpEmu and AnyPS5 pages and the Astro Bot and Demon's Souls game pages. PS4 exclusive emulation is far more mature; see shadPS4 and the PlayStation hub.
FAQ
Has Sony really stopped making PC versions?
For narrative single-player games from its first-party studios, yes. Per Bloomberg, PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed at a May 18, 2026 staff town hall that these games will now be PlayStation exclusive; Sony made no public statement. Online games like Marathon and Marvel Tokon stay multiplatform, and games from non-first-party studios, such as Ember Lab's Kena: Scars of Kosmora, are still planned for PC in 2026.
Which games are confirmed to skip PC?
According to Bloomberg, Ghost of Yotei (the Ghost of Tsushima sequel), Saros and Marvel's Wolverine won't come to PC. Wolverine launched on PS5 only in September 2026.
Why did Sony stop?
Per Bloomberg's sources: a faction inside PlayStation worried PC releases hurt the console brand and sales of the PS5 and its successors; recent PC ports sold below expectations; PC players pushed back on required PSN accounts; and the next Xbox is more like a PC, which could bring Sony's games to a rival platform.
Can I play PS5 exclusives on PC with an emulator now?
Not smoothly. As of November 2026, Astro Bot, the Demon's Souls remake, Ghost of Yotei, Saros and Wolverine only reach gameplay in PS5 emulators: Demon's Souls at about 30 FPS, Astro Bot's opening at 30-60 FPS in a community fork, Ghost of Yotei at about 1 FPS, and Wolverine like a slideshow. The games that play reliably are mostly 2D and indie titles.
