Published Updated 2 min read

Key points

  • In early June 2026, Serotoniner released BB Reborne 1.0, a Bloodborne visual overhaul covering every map, the DLC areas and the Chalice Dungeons.
  • Main changes: 2x map textures, optimized mipmaps and LODs, better height and normal maps with parallax occlusion, and reworked global illumination, point lights and emissives.
  • It also swaps in higher-detail assets, fixes some mesh holes and floating objects, ships a ReShade preset and offers an optional rebalance of the base game's final bosses.
  • It runs on PC through the shadPS4 PS4 emulator (v0.15.1 at launch), needs 23 GB of space, and the author recommends 32 GB of RAM and 16 GB of VRAM.
  • It is a separate project from fromsoftserve's Shadows of the Hunt (formerly Bloodborne Remaster Project).

In early June 2026, modder Serotoniner released BB Reborne, a visual overhaul of Bloodborne. DSOGaming describes it as "a complete visual overhaul" that changes textures, lighting and material properties across the entire game, including the DLC and Chalice Dungeons, with the goal of making each area and time of day "feel distinct, memorable, and worth rediscovering." It runs on PC through the PS4 emulator shadPS4 and required v0.15.1 at launch.

What it changes

Per DSOGaming and Screen Rant:

  • Textures: all map textures upscaled 2x, with optimized mipmaps and LODs.
  • Materials: improved height and normal maps, parallax occlusion on every surface it can.
  • Lighting: reworked global illumination, player lighting, point lights and emissive sprites.
  • Geometry: low-detail assets swapped for higher-detail versions, some mesh holes and floating or clipping objects fixed, denser foliage in places.
  • Post-processing: a custom ReShade preset with RTX ambient occlusion, extra anti-aliasing and film grain.
  • UI: reworked HUD element positions.
  • Optional: per Wccftech, a rebalance of the final main-game bosses to line up with The Old Hunters.

Screen Rant quotes the author's video description: the result is "something closer to how Bloodborne lives in memory: darker, gothic and mysterious." Version 1.0 covers all maps, DLC areas and Chalice Dungeons, and it passed 800 downloads within days.

How it relates to Shadows of the Hunt

Bloodborne on PC already had a well-known visual mod: fromsoftserve's Shadows of the Hunt, formerly Bloodborne Remaster Project. Digital Foundry tested it in January. Its headline feature replaces baked shadows with fully dynamic ones; it is a 15 GB download and dropped an RTX 4080 to 45-65 fps at 4K with all effects on. DSOGaming frames BB Reborne as an alternative for players who don't love fromsoftserve's approach.

What this means for players

If you already play Bloodborne on PC with shadPS4, BB Reborne is another way to give it a clear visual upgrade, but it asks a lot of RAM and VRAM, so mid-range GPUs may struggle. It is a mod that works with your own game data and shadPS4. See the shadPS4 page for requirements, the Bloodborne page for how the game runs on PC, and our v0.16.0 story for the shadPS4 release that landed the same week.

FAQ

Does BB Reborne work on a PS4 or PS5?

The mod is made for shadPS4, the PS4 emulator on PC. At launch it required shadPS4 v0.15.1.

What PC do you need for BB Reborne?

A strong one. The install needs 23 GB of free space, and the author recommends 32 GB of RAM and a GPU with 16 GB of VRAM.

How is BB Reborne different from Shadows of the Hunt?

They are separate projects by different modders. Shadows of the Hunt by fromsoftserve (formerly Bloodborne Remaster Project) centers on fully dynamic shadows. BB Reborne by Serotoniner centers on upscaled textures and reworked materials and lighting, with a darker, more gothic look.

Does BB Reborne change the difficulty?

Not by default. Per Wccftech, it includes an optional rebalance of the base game's final bosses so the difficulty lines up better with The Old Hunters DLC.
