Release
Suyu Ships a 'Final Edition' and Archives Itself, While New Team suyu-main Carries On
Key points
- On Sept 4, 2026, Suyu released v0.0.4 'Final Edition'. The notes say it is the last public release, the repository is a public archive, and no further development is planned.
- The release says it is based on Eden and adds a 'Recompiler mode' that statically recompiles a Switch game's AArch64 code into native x86-64 ahead of time.
- The repository was archived in mid-September. Sources disagree on whether it was the 13th, 14th or 18th.
- suyu-main, run by a new team in the same GitHub organization, is at v14.1.0 (Oct 12, 2026). The experimental Drippu branch is also still producing builds.

The original Suyu project is over. On September 4, 2026, it published v0.0.4 "Final Edition" under the suyu-emu GitHub organization, with notes saying this is Suyu's final public release, the repository is a public archive, and no further development or downloads are planned. The repository was archived in mid-September. The name lives on, though: suyu-main, run by a new team in the same organization, is still shipping updates, with v14.1.0 the latest as of October 2026.
Suyu's two and a half years
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| Early March 2024 | Days after Yuzu shut down, the community builds Suyu (pronounced like "sushi") from leftover source |
| 2024-03-21 | GitLab removes the project after a DMCA notice; Suyu moves to its own server |
| 2024-04 | Discord bans Suyu's server |
| 2024-07-10 | Nintendo cites the Yuzu settlement in DMCA notices against Suyu and other forks |
| 2025-02-13 | Suyu announces it is ending development |
| 2026-02-12 | A Nintendo DMCA notice names 13 emulators, Suyu among them |
| 2026-08-17 | Nintendo files 7 DMCA notices in one day; hundreds of Suyu-network repos go down (311 by TorrentFreak's count) |
| 2026-09-04 | v0.0.4 "Final Edition" released |
| Mid-September 2026 | Original repository archived (13th, 14th or 18th, depending on the source) |
Suyu had already announced a stop in February 2025, so v0.0.4 reads more like a parting gift. It landed less than a month after the August takedowns, but the project didn't link the two.
What the final release included
According to the release notes and Boiling Steam, v0.0.4 describes itself as based on Eden. Alongside the usual high-level emulation (HLE), it adds a "Recompiler mode" that statically recompiles a Switch game's AArch64 code into native x86-64 ahead of time, rather than translating on the fly. It ships for Windows, Linux and Android, not macOS or iOS.
Static recompilation became a hot topic in the second half of 2026; the unofficial native PC versions of the Zelda games that appeared in October use the same idea. Suyu built it into a general-purpose emulator, but as a final release it won't get fixes.
suyu-main and Drippu pick up the baton
Boiling Steam says the suyu-emu organization was archived, but two repositories in it, suyu-main and drippu, are not archived and still had commits in late October. The likeliest reading: the old repository was archived, and the new ones carry on.
- suyu-main: created September 10, 2026, described as "suyu - the next era" and led by DougChanSan and SourCreamCulture. The latest is v14.1.0 (2026-10-12); the version number jumped from v0.0.14 straight to v14.0.1. Its headline feature is exporting games as "static" or "hybrid" packages, with game code translated ahead of time and bundled in. The notes list testing on Linux (RTX 3090), Windows (RX 9070 XT) and macOS (Apple M5, via MoltenVK).
- Drippu: labeled "suyu experimental," an experimental branch with a native AArch64 recompiler. Automated builds have reached v0.0.5 (2026-10-13). The repository has iOS research, but nothing usable yet.
What this means for players
- The original Suyu is frozen at v0.0.4 and won't get bug fixes, so it isn't a good daily driver. The Suyu page tracks suyu-main, now maintained by the new team.
- suyu-main is very new and its versions move fast, so it suits people who like to experiment. For everyday play, Eden, the most actively updated option, is safer. See best Switch emulator 2026.
- For where all of this came from, see the Yuzu page. Whatever you choose, get it from the official site.
FAQ
Is the Suyu emulator still being updated?
The original project is finished. v0.0.4 on Sept 4, 2026 was the final release, and the repository was archived soon after. What's still updated is suyu-main, a new project in the same GitHub organization led by a new team (latest v14.1.0, Oct 12, 2026), plus the experimental Drippu branch.
What is Suyu's Recompiler mode?
It translates a Switch game's AArch64 (ARM) code into an x86-64 program ahead of time, instead of translating while the game runs. The release also keeps the usual high-level emulation (HLE) mode.
Was the archive caused by August's DMCA notices?
The project didn't connect the two. On timing alone: Nintendo's Aug 17 DMCA notices took down hundreds of Suyu-related GitHub repositories, and the final release came less than a month later.
Does Suyu run on Mac or iPhone?
Final v0.0.4 shipped for Windows, Linux and Android, not macOS or iOS. suyu-main's v14.1.0 notes mention testing on an Apple M5 Mac through MoltenVK. Drippu's iOS work is research only, not a usable app.
