KytyPS5 PS5 Emulator Progress: Astro Bot Goes In-Game, PS5 GTA V Moves From Menus to the Prologue

Published Updated 2 min read

Key points

  • In mid-July, KytyPS5 0.0.3 got the PS5 version of GTA V to its main menu and display settings, and no further.
  • On Sept 5-6, community forks and local builds ran GTA V's prologue at 40-60 FPS on a high-end PC, crashing when the police showed up.
  • In September, Astro Bot reached gameplay for the first time at about 11 FPS with heavy rendering issues; the Demon's Souls remake went from 2 FPS to around 30 FPS.
  • On Sept 30, Bryan Adams' fork BryKytyPS5 pushed Astro Bot's opening to 30-60 FPS, up to 5x faster in one level, though only the opening was tested.
  • As of Nov 1, all of this is 'in-game' status. No PS5 exclusive can be played through yet.

As of November 2026, the PS5 emulator KytyPS5 can get Astro Bot and the PS5 version of GTA V into gameplay, but neither is playable start to finish. GTA V's prologue hits 40-60 FPS on a high-end PC and then crashes. Astro Bot runs slowly on official builds, while a community fork pushes its opening to 30-60 FPS. That's a big jump from July, when the best it could do was a menu.

Note that the September footage came from KytyPS5 community forks and local builds, not only official releases. Kotaku also pointed out that GTA V already has a PC version, so emulating it isn't useful by itself; the point is proving big 3D games can run.

Astro Bot: from 11 FPS to 30-60 FPS (in a fork)

Astro Bot is a Sony first-party PS5 exclusive, so its progress gets extra attention.

  • September: per Wccftech, Astro Bot reached gameplay for the first time at about 11 FPS, with major rendering issues.
  • Sept 30: developer Bryan Adams released his fork, BryKytyPS5, and compared it with the official build on the same PC:
SectionOfficial KytyPS5BryKytyPS5 fork
New game openingUnder 20 FPS, ~20-second freeze~60 FPS
Crash site~18 FPS~60 FPS
Sky Garden (first level)~40-second freeze, then 5 FPSAbout 5x faster

The fork also fixed Sky Garden's cloud layer and the blotchy artifacts on the planets. Adams was clear that it's experimental and only the opening (30-60 FPS) was tested, not the full campaign.

Other 3D games

  • Jul 29: XIII (remake) at about 30 FPS with obvious graphics errors; TMNT: Wrath of the Mutants at 22-24 FPS (Tom's Hardware);
  • September: the Demon's Souls remake jumped from 2 FPS to 10-18 FPS in a day, later reaching about 30 FPS (Wccftech);
  • Marvel's Wolverine (released in September): it launches but plays like a slideshow (Wccftech). Engadget relayed a report of it reaching the main menu in slow motion on an RTX 5090.

Requirements

  • A Vulkan 1.3 GPU; in July, testing was mainly on NVIDIA;
  • The big-game tests above all used high-end PCs;
  • Official builds land almost daily, and behavior can change a lot between builds;
  • No games, system firmware or keys are included.

What this means for players

KytyPS5 is currently the fastest-moving project for big 3D PS5 games, but "reaches gameplay" is a long way from "playable to the end." For game-by-game status, check the KytyPS5 page and the Astro Bot and GTA V compatibility records. For 2D and indie games, compare with SharpEmu. GTA 6 isn't out yet, and no emulator can run it.

FAQ

Can KytyPS5 play GTA V?

Only a short stretch. In early September 2026, the prologue of the PS5 version ran at 40-60 FPS on a Ryzen 9950X3D and RX 7900 XT, then crashed when the police arrived. One user reached the open world at under 15 FPS, and it crashed after a cutscene. The footage came from community forks and local builds. GTA V already has a PC version; the point was proving big 3D games can run.

Can KytyPS5 play Astro Bot?

It reaches gameplay but isn't smooth. When it first went in-game in September it ran at about 11 FPS with many rendering issues. Bryan Adams' fork BryKytyPS5 pushed the opening to 30-60 FPS, but only the opening was tested, not the full game.

Can KytyPS5 play GTA 6?

No. GTA 6 doesn't launch until Nov 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no emulator can run it. Any 'GTA 6 emulator' or 'GTA 6 PC download' is fake.

What PC do I need for KytyPS5?

A GPU with Vulkan 1.3 support. July reports said testing happened mainly on NVIDIA GPUs, so AMD and Intel graphics may be less stable. The big-game tests in the press all used high-end PCs, such as a Ryzen 9950X3D with an RX 7900 XT.
